JCroniger #1 Posted September 3, 2002 Anyone check out Matt's site?: AtariProtos.com It's pretty sweet. There were some protos that I never heard of and lots of cool pics.
+Atari_Warlord #2 Posted September 3, 2002 Yes, his site is fantastic! I couldn't stop reading it this morning.
Tempest #3 Posted September 3, 2002 I'm not responsible for anyone loosing their job because they got caught reading my site at work. Seriously though, thanks for all the kind words. This really makes all my work worth it. I was afraid that after being in development for so long it wouldn't live up to expectations. Glad to see I was wrong. Chris++ #4 Posted September 3, 2002 Jeez, Matt! Hell of a job! With all the half-baked stuff out there, it's always inspiring to see a website concocted with thorough attention to detail and accuracy. Congratulations on the excellent resource you've put together. All my admiration to you, Proto King. CF
TheSmirk #5 Posted September 3, 2002 Hey, that is a nice site, very cool info.....do you take submissions for stuff you don't have? I have a Frostbite proto, that has a few differences from final version, I can dig it out and scan the cart for ya, and get some screenshots let me know and I'll try to dig it up in my boxes of carts! -Curtis

Chuck Gill #8 Posted September 4, 2002 Tempest, It's a great effort! I really like the handwritten cart labels for the menu, it's perfect for a proto site. -Chuck
DuckandCover #9 Posted September 4, 2002 I just burned almost 45 minutes exploring the 2600 protos, and I haven't even covered a quarter of the information. Thank you for putting together such an interesting and helpful resource, Matt! Incredible work!

MattyXB #11 Posted September 4, 2002 Thank you, I have see, that you add my Prototypes there. PS: My Demons to Diamonds is PAL, when I not wrong. I have the same colors. And it has a yellow sticker and lable. But it has the same text as the NTSC version. And I you miss some picture: Millipede PAL, Seaquest PAL.
+johnnywc #12 Posted September 4, 2002 I agree - Tempest's site is fantastic. One of the most fascinating things about the 2600 is all of the prototypes (and the stories behind them) and with atariprotos.com we finally have an informative, cohesive, and entertaining resource that brings it all together. Thanks again!!!
Velvis2001 #13 Posted September 4, 2002 I have always wondered what the story behind the carts is. Specifically how or where was the cart found. Like where has Lord of the Rings been for 20 years....How did it surface....
Tempest #14 Posted September 4, 2002 I do know the story behind that one, but I'm not allowed to say under penalty of death. Tempest

Stella'sGhost #16 Posted September 5, 2002 Nice site, lots of great info, a real labour of love, and it looks good too. Some of those never released games look so good! I wish the original programmers would just finish them already and release them through Atari Age or someone! OK, so the market is small, but it would be done out of love right? And wouldn't most of us buy them? I would! Seeing all those prototypes makes me want to get back to, dare I think it?- learning how to program my own game for the VCS... like Heston almost said in the never released Planet of the "Aligator People" - "damn it...damn it all to hell!!!!"
Thomas Jentzsch #17 Posted September 5, 2002 Very nice site! If you ever want to know details about the non-visible differences between your Atari 2600 protos and/or the final versions, you can send me you dumps (confidential!) and I'll analyze the code for you. BTW: Are you sure about the 4K Asteroids version? I have never seen a 4K binary (and I doubt it would be possible at all).
Scott Stilphen #18 Posted September 5, 2002 AFAIK, there wasn't any 4K version. Brad Stewart mentioned in my interview (http://digitalpress.5u.com/archives/arc00120.htm) that he and Bob Smith tried to squeeze it down to 4K, but couldn't. The other notable difference I've found between the 2 versions is if tested with a Promblaster (cart copier) unit, the one with the title screen shows as a 4K cart! Tempest #19 Posted September 5, 2002 The other notable difference I've found between the 2 versions is if tested with a Promblaster (cart copier) unit, the one with the title screen shows as a 4K cart! Maybe that's where I got confused. I'll change that tonight. Tempest
