Albert #1 Posted October 30, 2008 Is anyone playing Dead Space? I picked this up the other day since I'm a fan of this genre and the reviews have been fairly positive. Haven't gotten too far into the game yet, but they've done a great job with the atmosphere. I'm not too crazy about the fixed camera view, which seems a bit awkward to me, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. The in-game user-interface (done with "holograms") is quite well done, and I like how you can view a line to your next objective without having to fumble around in the 3D map. So far I'm reminded a bit of Doom 3--the atmosphere is fairly dark and there are lots of creepy whisperings as you're playing, as well as all sorts of weird text written on the walls. This is a great game to play at night, in the dark, with the sound turned up. ..Al
moycon #2 Posted October 30, 2008 I have a $25 giftcard to Gamestop and went in there this past week-end planning to get Little Big Planet. They had a video running that showed Dead Space and it looked AWESOME!! I then considered getting that. In the end I held off on both. I wanted to see other peoples opinions about the games before I commited to either. I'll put you down for a Dead Space thumbs up.

Albert #5 Posted October 30, 2008 I have a $25 giftcard to Gamestop and went in there this past week-end planning to get Little Big Planet. Funny, I used three Target gift cards I had to buy Dead Space and Fallout 3. ..Al
+remowilliams #6 Posted October 30, 2008 How long did it take you to get through? The save timer indicator said around 15 hours or so I think, don't know if that was a total game time count though. Might be a bit more than that. Really amazing game. I thought a few times the game was going to end as I played through, but then there was more. And that 'twinkle twinkle little star' is one of the creepiest things I've heard in a game.
moycon #7 Posted October 30, 2008 Funny, I used three Target gift cards I had to buy Dead Space and Fallout 3. ..Al Nice, I've been doing online surveys and getting "paid" to do if with various giftcards. I've gotten two $25 Gamestop ones. (I can only get 1 gamestop giftcard a quarter) Pretty cool to just sit around doing surveys for a few minutes and getting cash off videogames in return! Artlover #8 Posted October 30, 2008 Is anyone playing Dead Space? .... I'm not too crazy about the fixed camera view, which seems a bit awkward to me, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. Well, to borrow from my replies in the other two threads.... In brief: Yeah, it's a great game. The perspective sucks ass. You can't jump. I stopped playing awhile ago because I got stuck and fustrated, so I moved on other games.

Yeah, I got a bunch of $5 gift cards when they were having a sale on lots of stuff I needed (like Gatorade, which I bring with me in a cooler when I'm mountain biking). Basically it was, "Buy 2 and get a $5 gift card!" so I made out like a bandit there. ..Al
+remowilliams #11 Posted October 30, 2008 (edited) In brief: Yeah, it's a great game. The perspective sucks ass. You can't jump. I really didn't have many problems with the perspective, other than some irritating CQB view issues at times. The perspective definitely is intentionally claustrophobic though. You can jump - in Zero G. Boy can you jump. I think I only got stuck once or twice for a bit. You know, I did look briefly to see if there were other threads about the game, but next time I guess I should try scrolling down further. You replied to the other thread I started. Though I put that in modern gaming for more of a cross platform view and discussion. Edited October 30, 2008 by remowilliams

Noelio #17 Posted December 9, 2008 Believe it or not I got stuck on the "asteroids" mini game where you have to man the turret. Thumbsticks are awful for that. At least with my thumbs! I, too, am playing fallout 3. That is the perfect game in my opinion. It's got it all and it's anything you want it to be. If that doesn't get game of the year I will be absolutely stunned. The one thing that bothers me is that there are hundreds of vehicles around and not one available to you. That could have made travel from town to town interesting. Dead Space is interesting but it lacks the huge open world sandbox that I enjoy in Fallout. In other words the frustration with my lack of thumb control translates into a teen-like "this sucks". LOL! Over Christmas holidays I will conquer my thumb's insubordination.

Fallout 3 is great except for the crappy main plot. I suggest not "finishing" the main plot until you've fully exhausted exploring the entire game world and doing all the side missions (if that is your thing). The "end" of the game comes much too quickly, and pretty much without warning (meaning you'll be expecting the game to continue after that point, but it's just over). Outside of that, yes, it's a great game and I need to go back to an earlier save and see the remaining 60% or so I'm guessing I missed (if not more). ..Al
PressureCooker2600 #19 Posted December 9, 2008 You'd think by now.....jumping in games would be obligatory. Having no ability to jump makes games REALLY frustrating most of the time.
Artlover #20 Posted December 9, 2008 Believe it or not I got stuck on the "asteroids" mini game where you have to man the turret. Me too as a matter of fact. After spending a few hours trying to pass it, I gave up. I just don't see how it's possible to beat that.
+remowilliams #21 Posted December 9, 2008 I just don't see how it's possible to beat that. The first time I did that part it just seemed impossible, but I was a bit buzzed at the time. Second time around I just blew threw it pretty easily.
