bin / bas files etc..

Recommended Posts

Okay, Since I am fairly new to the FORUM, but not the 2600...

I read much stuff here now..and see many .bin or .bas files, etc..

Also read about Stella and Emulators and such

I am totally lost with any of this stuff

What type of programs do i need on my Windows XP, to read these files, and also test them out on my PC ??

I read many comments from other users complimenting those who post these .bin files, from there work on some 2600 projects..

I am in the stone-age, when it comes to the 2600 computer lingo stuff...

So if someone has time to explain all of this stuff , please do so...............

" I wish i knew 2600 programming"

thanks in advance again,

Paulie

You use .bin files in an emulator in order to play the game on your PC. I use Z26, but Stella is also popular. You can download Z26 for free.

A .bin file works with emulators such as Stella:

http://stella.sourceforge.net/

You just go there, click on Stable Releases and download the latest version at this moment which is stella-2.6.1-win32.exe. It's easy to use.

If you just want to play a game using an emulator, all you need is the .bin file. You only need the .bas file if you want to look at the BASIC-like code for games made with batari Basic. If you're never going to make your own games with bB, you can ignore all .bas files. If you are interested in making your own Atari 2600 games, you can visit the batari Basic web site:

http://bataribasic.com/

You can skip the complicated setup process for bB if you also download Visual batari Basic:

There is also a Visual batari Basic Guide you can check out:
