..not sure if this is the appropriate place to mention, but just curious on who's had the pleasure of feeling their eye sockets burn after a solid game on this whachamafriggit.

I've had mine since I was 10 or 11, was a "cheap" gift on sale for $15 going out at toys-r-us.. I played the Tennis game and Warioland compulsively for days when I was home alone with no other system.. honestly didn't think it'd be a real collectors item.

I own one with about a dozen games. I find it doesn't bother my eyes at all, and the 3D effect works well. The problem is that the library is so small: there are really only about four or five "must-have" games: Wario Land, Mario Clash, Galactic Pinball, and maybe a couple of others.

I have one, with seven games. Never had any problems from using it, but wish there were more games available. Wouldn't mind playing space invaders and tetris, but don't have those. I like the Pinball game, and Red Alarm isn't bad either.

I love the VB. Despite all it's flaws (for there are many), it provides an interesting experience that you can't get anywhere else.

I have a full set of North American games, plus most of the Japanese exclusives (all the affordable ones anyways).

I have one with 7 games (and Jack Bros. IS one of those!). It's ok. I pull it out every so often, but it hurts my eyes and head too quickly for extended play. Fun, though, especially Wario and Teleroboxer.

I love the VB so much, it's my all-time favorite underdog system.

The first time I had my hands on one, I used it on a six-hour car ride (3 hours each way). I developed a massive, massive headache that night. I wouldn't ever repeat that particular experience, but otherwise, VB kicks arse.

I'm not sure how many GameBase users are around here but I suppose if even one person finds this useful then I might as well post it here.

In honor of the the 4 "hoarded" rom being leaked I threw together this Gamebase this morning....

DOWNLOAD: http://sharebee.com/4e89c489

This is a US centric Gamebase. By that I mean, when a game was released in two regions I only kept the US rom. If a game is a Japan exclusive I included it here. This Gamebase contain all 22 officialy released Virtual Boy games (no hack or protos here). Every game has Front cover, Back cover, Cart, and Manual scans. All but 2 have soundtracks.

As with my other GameBase's, my GameBase install location is..

C:\Program Files\emu\GameBase

...not the default..

C:\Program Files\GameBase

If you want to use the default just set up your folders proper and you should be good. Sorry if this is annoying to some, but that's where I keep all my emulators.

I bought one when they were blowing them out on clearance. I was always facinated by 3D, even in monochrome. And you know what, the VB actually did a damn good job (on the like 3 games that really did it) The problem is, first, most the games are just 2D games with 3D squeezed in somehow, it works for Warioland, but it would have been a great game even on the Gameboy. The VB just offeres the 3D effects for some objects (swinging balls like Mario, but 3D) and the background.

Now, I've never had the eyestrain problem that most people have, but I did actually read the instructions and adjust it properly, something I don't thiknk anybody else really ever did, other than to see what the knobby things did

To bad it never got a real 3D game, Red Alarm was starfoxish, but how about more 2D3D, I always wondered if the VB could have handled say, Doom. I mean, why not? It is rated higher than the SNES, and that got a copy of Doom, that actually did better than I expected.

In todays world of ultra high resolution and silky smooth framerates, I think it's about time for a new 3D system. Hopefully, it won't be killed off so quickly like the VB. Seriously, if it wasn't for the fact that Nintendo simply didn't want the thing to succede, it could have succeded very well, and who knows, could havew become a real viable alternative game platform (3D I mean, not virtualboy)

I think one of the major flaws with the Virtual Boy is that it is actually quite an anti-social gaming device. Most consoles are viewable on a TV, so you can have multi-player games - or at least sit and make catcalls while you watch your friends play. With handhelds, there is still some social aspect as many of the games are multi-player, or people can at least watch over your shoulder.

With the VB, though, you stuck your face into the Mister Spock viewfinder and cut yourself off from the outside world. If a 3D system is to be successful it will have to have a screen that is viewable by more than one person at a time.

Thanks for all of the input too ^^

Yeah, I totally agree on the library being WAY too small.. though on the plus side, I guess that just makes it another "easy to collect for" system. Also, a game like Doom, or Duke3d port even, would have been KILLER on the VB in my opinion as well.. they even did duke on the game com

I also agree that it does get a bit anti-social in regards to not being able to watch the other person play..

...though it obviously still makes a good conversation piece, and seems to have more of a respectable fan-base than I thought :D

..I also checked out "Planet Virtual Boy", neat site, added to favs for browsing :3

I bought a new Virtual Boy from TRU back sometime in 1996 before the N64's launch. I went to TRU to buy SNES Zelda actually. Then I saw they were liquidating VB's @ some crazy price like $30. So I picked one up and I think Wario Land with it. It is a funky little thing for sure. It would have been SOO much better had they used more colors than red and black. It would have been fine in the early 90's. But this was supposed to be "32-bit near VR tech" Besides, many handhelds were already out that could display hundreds of colors.

I wonder if Nintendo arrogantly though only red and black would be fine because their original GB did so well with just puke yellow and green? ;) That said, I did enjoy my Virtual Boy. Mario's Tennis is a lot of fun. I even put the code in for the hard difficulty and did quite well. The computer AI is actually extremely good in this game. Then I also had Red Alarm. A very cool shooter. Beat that game. Then there's Wario Land which I never did beat iirc, just got very far. I think I was missing some of the statues or something. Really good and unique 2d platformer. Jumping from foreground to background etc.

I also had Virtual Baseball. And that game is TRASH lol... It looks like a 2600 game and the play mechanics and controls are weak. Then I had the shooter Vertical Force, an ok game but nothing special. Then I had 3d Tetris. Ho hum, nothing special. Then the Bomberman game. Again, nothing special. So ya, the system does have several cool games, but for the money they are worth now, I ended up selling mine actually cus I needed the money and figured the games I liked weren't worth owning the system over what it was worth. I'll prolly buy one again someday I'm sure...

Btw you need more poll choices... ;)

I own like two of them. One that needs repair and another one that I had from when I was younger. While it does not damage your eyes, it is like visiting a movie theather. Image going to the movies now all you need to have that exprience is just by playing virtual boy.

It is a movie theather in one with the Arcade. All you need is the running oxygen, a movie and some pop maze.
