Atari2600Lives #1 Posted September 4, 2002 Just taking a quick poll to find out where "my" score falls. I just scored 86,000+ As I understand it a perfect score is 114,000 . Does everyone achieve a perfect score?? I am having trouble breaking 100,000. What are some of your high scores in this game?

Lemmi #3 Posted September 4, 2002 My highest score is 104,500 and i did that along time ago, and i did that by never using an underground passage either, just a straight out run to the right
mark #4 Posted September 4, 2002 like 5 minitues ago i got 104,299 without using any passages just strait right or never died. i never knew about the passages or never used them. is that how they get high perfect scores? yesterday i got 999,999 in megamania and got to day 10 in enduro day before. Lemmi #5 Posted September 4, 2002 There is a nice map on Pitfall Harry's site, just scroll down to the map link http://members.tripod.com/~PitfallHarry/ its a very nice site check it out if you havent yet
tiggerthehun #6 Posted September 4, 2002 I'm sure this is out there somewhere - so, please accept my apologies, if it is... Just curious what the sequence on all the "Megamania Things" are. I'd like to know how close I am to at least getting to the point where they start repeting themselves (tho' in different colors, I'm assuming?). tiggerthehun #7 Posted September 4, 2002 Oh, sorry - I've just hijacked the thread... o.k. then... my high score in Pitfall was right around 90,000 back when I was a young'n - and my attention span was LONGER than that of a gnats...

ATARIPITBULL #9 Posted September 4, 2002 I think a little over 90,000 was the best I ever did, but I think I will give it a go this weekend and see if I can get over 100,
Goochman #10 Posted September 4, 2002 Yes you need to use the sewers in order to get 114,000 - There was a nice 'map' on how to do this awhile ago but I lost it (not map as in the whole system, just directions on where to go to get the treasures)
NE146 #11 Posted September 4, 2002 Wasn't there a writeup recently about someone playing the perfect game of pitfall? Oh here it is..just found it using Google... on TwinGalaxies site http://www.twingalaxies.com/cgi-perl/news_...llperfection.pl
D.Yancey #12 Posted September 5, 2002 I'll say the person in the above mentioned article is certainly not the first person to get a perfect score in Pitfall!. Including myself, I personally know three individuals that achieved perfect scores that were documented by Activision within 2 weeks of the game's release. AND later, there were also a few more listed in "Activisions" newsletters. However, I certainly congratulate anyone getting this GREAT score!

David: No, the person mentioned in the above article (Alan Hewston) was clearly not the first person to ever achieve a perfect score on Pitfall. Alan was however the first person to ever submit absolute proof (videotape) to Twin Galaxies and that's why he got the recognition in that article. You are correct in that MANY people had a perfect score shortly after the games release. I currently have a list of over 40 names of people who have a perfect score on Pitfall but I cannot get in touch with them to a) verify the details or b) get them to register with TG so I can get them into the book of records. D.Yancey #14 Posted September 6, 2002 Hi Ron, I didn't know you even had lists such as the one you mentioned in your previous post. That's cool! It would probably not be very difficult to track down some of these folks. The tough part is to find some that still have an interest in Atari. Once you cross that hurdle with someone, then the really tough part is to find one that still has photographic proof for verification. I didn't even maintain photos of all my scores. I sent many in to Activision and didn't have a copy for myself. They weren't listed anywhere, since they weren't Activision world records, but there were still some really great scores lost to this dilema. The trick would be to locate the old files from Activision's consumer relations department with all the photos for club registrations, etc. Now that would be some history! Actually, it's a lot harder than one might imagine... I have tried looking (in phone books, the web, etc.) for years and have only been able to track down 4 of the 40+ names I have. Guess I'll just have to keep trying.
bobafett07728 #16 Posted September 23, 2002 I know this post is a little old by now, but I figured I'd post it here rather thatn starting a new thread. Fixed my Atari 2600, and immediately got back to playing my games. I am happy to say, for the first time in my life I have "beaten" Pitfall! I reached the final treasure with 11 seconds remaining, and a final score of 113957. I hit two logs early on, and also had used up all of my lives, so I can definitely improve. Needless to say. . .confidence is very high, and I will be working towards that "Perfect Game"!!! Twin Galaxies. . .be prepared for a new member of the Pitfall! club!!!!! bobafett07728 #18 Posted September 23, 2002 I'm way ahead of you. I registered about two weeks ago, and emailed you for some rules and some submission forms before my Atari was even repaired. I can gaurantee you will be receiving some videotape of my high scores before too long, hopefully a perfect game of Pitfall being one of them.
