NXE New 360 dash update

Yeah that sucks dude.

You had to expect it though. I swear, ANY Xbox 360 made in the first year of production....will break.

Might be in 2 weeks...might be in 2 years....It'll break.

 

Still, once you get you get your 360 back....don't waste your points on "premium" themes.

I read that 85% of the units made AT LAUNCH had a critical problem with them that prevented them from working.

I have my 360 hooked up via HDMI. Haven't had any issues. I wonder if it depends on how you have your 360 hooked up? Like HDMI to a reciever as opposed to a TV?

I'm using HDMI as well and haven't run into any audio issues yet.

Well seems the NXE migrated over to my other, older xbox somehow. Either thru the hard drive or memory card. It happened after my I kicked my son off the main tv and he moved his hard-drive/memcards over to the other system.

ok after a week of so of playing with it, I've concluded NXE is officially useless. Everyone I know including myself now just simply hit the center button to go the "old" blades to access stuff.

What I want to know, and haven't found the answer to yet is....

 

Does the NXE work with hacked unofficial HDD's? I guess more specificly, do HDD game installs work? Any body know if MS is/has/will start banning people for it (not sure why they would tho since it offers no abailities of piracy or on-line cheating.)

 

All my searching shows nothing but the same of everyone arguing about how good or awful it is.

Lets face it, it was a move to appeal to casual gamers in the hopes they would buy a 360, create a dumb little avatar, and play Lips and Scene It this Christmas instead of create a Mii and play Wii Sports.

 

Really would have been nice if they gave you the option of using the old interface, I'd probably go back, although honestly, it's not that hard to hit the center button and find what you need.

Same here. In most cases I just hit the center button and get it over with. The thing that annoys me about NXE is now I have to enter my password twice when I select my profile.

I like somethings about it the new update and other things not as much.

 

I enjoy the avatar of myself, although I don't want it as my gamerpic.....Vault-Boy will always have that privilege.

 

Some parts of the interface are neat....but others are more bothersome than helpful. And is it just me or does downloading stuff from the marketplace take a helluva lot longer now? I downloaded 'A Kingdom for Keflings' and it was only 68 mbs and it took about 15-20 minutes. Usually it would take no longer than 3-4 minutes.

I like the new interface, hated the old one, it was to cluttered. The avatar isn't something that was needed in my opinion.

I've looked through the new UI a bit and have determined that all it really is is an expanded vehicle to sell you stuff. And it's all very much in your face. I need to turn "Automatically launch game" back on so I can avoid seeing it, since I don't play games online with my 360 anyway.

Agreed. New features aside, I want the blade interface back. And who the hell thought that the off center selection focus was a good idea? It's really annoying.

I suppose I could sort of see that, but the MC interface has a more traditional 'strip' view with a clear focus. It's way less annoying.

But then some aren't. So who knows what the problem is or where it lies exactly at this point.

I got my 360 back last night. Actually... it was replaced. I had a new MAC address and I had to login into Live before my arcade games were recognized as purchased (although I think it was a permanent transfer once I logged in.) So I was finally able to spend a little time with the new dash. I don't think it is bad. It is functional and it has a polished look. Too much of it is advertisement but disabling the "Welcome" part helps. Really I think it is fine. BUT, I have thought from the first time I saw it that the blade interface was the absolute best console menu interface ever created. I used to throw games into my consoles on boot up and skip the menu interface because there wasn't much reason to bother. Even with consoles from this generation I do the same thing. I don't have much need for the Wii menus unless I want to play Dr. Mario. Other than that I would like to go straight to the game. The 360 is different. I thought the blade interface was the best thing since sliced bread. Now it's gone. It seems like a waste really. I don't really see the purpose in it. So, I think they still have a good interface but IMO they got rid of the best console menu ever designed.

This slow downloading thing is going to be a problem....for me, at least.....if they don't fix it soon.

 

It took me 15 minutes to download Banjo-Kazooie yesterday and the game was only 48 MB.

Can't it just be that the live network is more busy now because a lot of people are upgrading the xbox with the new dash? Maybe it's just a bandwith problem.

I haven't noticed any increased download times. Can't imagine what would cause only some 360's to experience it and not others. Usually when I download something I do it first on my primary wireless Elite in the living room and then go upstairs and download again to my wired Pro unit. Neither one has experienced slowdown and I've downloaded a few things (premium theme, TV show, etc.. ) since the upgrade.

You do know that is over 2 years old and was pertaining to the initinal Xbox Live launch, not what's going on now.
