VideoFever1982 #2 Posted November 21, 2008 Hi guys, Anybody here on Atariage a fan of Pilotwings for the Super NES & N64? Great games and I hope that Nintendo makes one for the Wii. Anthony.... I really liked the one for the SNES. I buddy of mine had it and we played it all the time. Not familiar with the N64 as much. I'll have to get both of them in the future. Ghost Soldier #3 Posted November 21, 2008 I really enjoyed the N64 version. I spent endless hours flying around and checking out the scenery.
keilbaca #4 Posted November 21, 2008 I love the SNES Pilotwings. I never got a chance to play the N64 one, I should get that for the weekend...
Gentlegamer #5 Posted November 21, 2008 *raises hand* I remember playing it when it came out with a friend. We kept screwing up various things and the instructor gives you feedback. My mom saw the screen and his visage and remarked, "he looks pissed at you."
joeybastard #6 Posted November 21, 2008 I love both but prefer the SNES version of the the two. I actually need to replace my N64 cart, I lent mine to a nephew and it was lost.
PressureCooker2600 #7 Posted November 21, 2008 I remember the SNES version came out about the same time as F-Zero.........I had to choose between the two and of course I went with F-Zero and was HOOKED!
+Cafeman #8 Posted November 21, 2008 Never tried the SNES one but bought the N64 version about 2 months ago. It was better than we thought it'd be. I like shooting missiles.
rolligames #9 Posted November 21, 2008 I loved parachuting to the target... A Wii version is a must.
Crazy Climber #10 Posted November 21, 2008 This was the first game I bought (besides the pack in mario world) for the SNES. I though it was pretty cool back then but now I just think it's OK. I pretty much thought every game I bought for the SNES was awesome back in the day though. Some have not aged well, F zero comes to mind, man that game is boring now, I can't believe how much I used to play that piece of Sh$t!
fdurso224 #11 Posted November 21, 2008 I really enjoyed the N64 version. I spent endless hours flying around and checking out the scenery. Yeah. I spent hours flying around "Little States" just listing to the music and doing some sight seeing. The N64 Pilotwings was a very soothing game to relax yourself. I always wanted to purchase the soundtrack. Anthony....

That game was, is, and will always be awesome! I still prefer it to every subsequent F-Zero game. I like Pilotwings too. It has some great BGM.

F-Zero I'd one of the few she's games which I feel is still highly playable. Pilotwings is a blast as well.
VideoFever1982 #15 Posted November 22, 2008 I'd have to say that these games only age good or bad depending on US. Many of us still enjoy these games and to us, that have aged well in actuality. Problem is, many of us spend too much time comparing these old classics to the new stuff thats out right now. Frankly, i hate many of the games that they are coming out with now and would rather play something older sometimes.

dendawg #18 Posted November 22, 2008 One of the things I remember best is one of the female instructors, and how she got a "just got fucked" look on her face when you got a perfect score

fdurso224 #22 Posted November 23, 2008 Hi guys, Both Pilotwings were pretty successful. I wonder why Nintendo didn't make a Gamecube version. In fact its been over 12 years since the N64 game came out. Interesting enough there is a demand for another Pilotwings game!! Pilotwings 64 2 was in the works. But unfortunately it got cancelled. Don't think it went pass the concept stage. Would be awesome to see how they would work it out with the Wii and its controllers. Anthony....
PressureCooker2600 #23 Posted November 23, 2008 My favorite series.......Fallout.............I waited ten years for a sequel.....but it came. And boy was it worth it!!!!!! I believe they will make a Pilotwings sequel....definately.

Neither game was much of a success as far as sales go, they're two of only a handful of 1st party releases that Nintendo choose to never rerelease as players choice titles. Great games, I don't think today's Nintendo could quite recapture the magic of these two titles, so I'm just hoping they see Virtual Console rereleases. Great games, I don't think today's Nintendo could quite recapture the magic of these two titles, so I'm just hoping they see Virtual Console rereleases. I definately understand your point about the games not selling well. That's clearly the reason Nintendo is burying these games in the vault. However, I'd have to suggest the possibility that flight sims are a genre that we as consumers are growing into, meaning that we will support these game more in the future than we have in the past, because the technology has advanced to the point where these games are more fun than they used to be. Pilotwings, IMO, is perfect for the Wiimote. It was pretty good on the N64 controller, and was "okay" on the SNES pad. Better controls and better 3D give Pilotwings more potential than it had 12 years ago. FWIW, I have a theory that different levels of technology serve certain genres better than others. Pilotwings, a cartoon sim game, stands a lot to gain with the current gen. OTOH, we know that Asteroids was never the same after the loss of the vector monitor, and RPGs became a very different type of game after 3d textured graphics became affordable. Under my theory, Pilotwings was very literally ahead of its time.
