Pac Man Arcade Screenshots?

Recommended Posts

Could someone point me to a link with Pac Man Arcade screenshot or post some shots up?

There are no screenshots at it's entry in the AA Store. I have ordered the game and would like to see what the attract screen and game in play looks like.

I know ya'll will suggest emulation but I am working from Dark Age Dial-up here so that is a virtual impossibility.

Thanks

There are some screenshots here, although the title screen (which is not shown) has also been changed:

Thanks Al,

Looks like a good good hack. If it plays as good as Ms Pac and has stationary fruits and keys and one maze then I will be happy with it.

I'm not sure I understand the dial-up thing... the ROM is only what... 8k? And Stella isn't a huge download. Am I missing something?

I'm on dial-up and I recommend Z26. I tried Stella but it required extra downloads that took forever on dial-up. Z26 downloads fast and does not require any extra downloads.

I am TOTALLY oblivious to these things.

I downloaded the Z26 of which you speak and opened it and all I got was a bunch of computer code on a page which looked like ancient Sanskrit writings :? How does a person make THAT play a game or do anything other than bring confusion?

I am totally lost in the Emulation Woods Someone help me out if you have time.

Here is what I did:

First, I put the Z26 folder in the root directory (open "My Computer" then drag and drop it onto the "C:" icon).

Then I go to DOS (I click "Start" and go to the programs tab and click on "MS-DOS Prompt"). If you can't find "MS-DOS Prompt" you may have to search for it by using "Find."

After that, I type "cd.." until I get the "C:\>"

Then I type in "cd Z26" to change to the Z26 directory.

Once you are in the Z26 directory you can type in "dir" to see what files are in there. The files that have the .bin extension on the end are binary files that you can play in the emulator. To play one of the games, just type in "Z26 filename" where "filename" is the name of the binary you want to play. If the binary was named "pacman.bin" you would type in "Z26 pacman" This takes you to the game where the start and reset buttons are usually F1 and F2 on the keyboard. You can use the arrow buttons for control but it is better to have a pc joystick of some sort for better control. The best thing would be a Stelladaptor where you can plug in an Atari joystick or paddles to use instead.

Note: In order to play the game you want you must first copy it into the Z26 folder. You can simply drag and drop the binary into the Z26 folder from your desktop by opening "My Computer" and clicking on the "C:" icon to bring up the Z26 folder.

That's basically what I do. Hopefully if I overlooked something someone else will point it out.

For Z26 i recommend using the x26 frontend (2.7 MB), makes it much easier to use Z26.

Or just download Stella 2.6.1 (1.5 MB), it's easier to use than Z26 because it has a GUI included and doesn't require any extra files to download, everything you need is in the zip-file.

EDIT: here's a screenshot of the title:

All I do is drag and release rom images over the Z26 icon in my folder and it starts a game right up. No need for using DOS or typing commands or anything like that.

Hmm... that's strange... I just tried it and it worked fine for me. Seems that there is something else wrong on your end. :ponder:

Are you using Windows XP? Do those characters appear when you try to download the file or when you try to unzip the file on your HD?

That is what happens when I unzip it. It downloads fine but then just turns into Pig Latin.

Are you using Winzip? Maybe you should try using another program like WinRAR or 7-Zip...

Can't think of anything else that could help at the moment...

Wait... I just tried something... i opened the zip-file with Word and got the same strange characters (as expected)...

So maybe there's something wrong with your file-properties for .zip files? Right-click on the zip and choose "Open with" and then "Chose programm..." and search for the winzip.exe in the list or on your HD.

Or you can just download the .exe version which has a built-in installer that's basically point and click. This is one of the major reasons I'm contemplating removing the zip file version; people seem to have all kinds of problems with it somehow. However, the last time I tried to remove the zip file version, many people complained that they wanted it back, so I guess I can't win ...

And on this topic, not meaning to start a flame war or anything, but I've seen these complaints before, and I don't know where they're coming from:

1) Stella doesn't need any else to be downloaded with it. There are snapshot files you can choose to download if you want to view them in the GUI, but it isn't required (and that functionality isn't turned on by default anyway.

2) Stella isn't that large compared to other packages, and certainly not compared to other emulators for all the stuff it contains. Remember that it has a built-in UI, debugger, ROM database, support for ZIP/GZIP files, etc. All those features add up to extra space required.

3) Most important; if the zip file version doesn't work, try the exe version (assuming this is Windows you're talking about). This version couldn't be easier to use; you just double-click on it, and follow the onscreen instructions for installation.

Sorry to make this long-winded, but I just hate it when there's incorrect info floating around about the Stella project.

One more question on this emulator subject.

Some of the games start when you pusch the space bar and others do not.

What do you punch for "start" on the non spacebar games?

Thanks

Now all you need is a Stelladapter so you can use a 2600 stick :)

Or you can buy a joystick that works without a Stelladapter:

How about looking at the keyboard layout chart:

http://stella.sourceforge.net/docs/index.html#Keyboard

That will tell you everything you need to know about which key does what.

Glad to hear it finally worked!

Besides the keyboard or the stelladaptor you can also use any (AFAIK) joystick/joypad you have connected to your PC with stella.
