sandmountainslim #1 Posted November 30, 2008 With the help of some noble Atarians I have finally figured out how to run the Stella emulator Now I can actually PLAY games before I buy them from the AA Store. I will have to say this is an impressive emulator but a bit hard to use with the keyboard controls of my computer so I see where a Stelladapter would bring alot of satisfaction to the games that is missing without it. I also got to play some of the more rare games I had only wondered about before like Pepsi Invaders, Chase the Chuckwagon and Beat em and Eat em. All in all an enjoyable evening. Thanks to the folks who helped me get it going and hats off to the person who put Stella together in the beginning. Wp

+Random Terrain #3 Posted November 30, 2008 I play using one of these: But for a more real Atari experience, you can buy a Classic USB Joystick Controller for only $14.99: Recapture the magic of the late 70s and early 80s with a Classic USB Joystick Controller! Say goodbye to clumsy keyboard fumbling. Now you can finally play classic Atari games on your computer using a real joystick (the way they were meant to be played). Grab your joystick and feel the excitement.
sandmountainslim #4 Posted November 30, 2008 Wow.. joined 2004, 3900+ posts, and just ran Stella for the first time? Yip I had been trying to open it with zip file the whole time. Attempted to download it in '05 or so, got frustrated and gave up. Tried with winzip again yesterday and same thing happened only this time it was pointed out to me another way to get 'er up and running and I did it. Yay perseverance!! shadow460 #5 Posted November 30, 2008 Stella is good, but I prefer the real hard/software or at the least a couple of programmable multicarts. even though I have access to the multicarts, I still go for original software when I can. I usually don't play something if I dont have the actual cart of it...for some odd reason.

I can't see emulation ever replacing the old console itself but it is a good way for me to check out games before I buy them (been buying blind for years, taking peoples words on it) and a way to play uber rare stuff I could never find anyway. sandmountainslim #8 Posted December 10, 2008 Stella is MEGABAD! This thing has been getting more play than my Vader since I discovered how to use it. I can't say enough good things about Stella. Wp
mos6507 #9 Posted December 10, 2008 Stella is really nearing perfection for sure. Adding things like AtariVox/Savekey support was awesome.
