Are people on CL really this dense?

Recommended Posts

I love this one for the "Calico Vision 2400 fir sale". Price has gone from $200 to $60, then back up to $80, and still overpriced. Maybe $60 wasn't a horrible starting point if it's nice.

It's back down to $60 again...

Mirage, mac's are lovely nice machines, but woefully on the expensive and pricey side

that is why people go for the pc instead where you can get mac performance and equivalent software without paying through the nose for it (speaking as a pc user that migrated from various atari computer systems)

You sure can get PCs for less, but the amount of aggravation I've saved myself in the past six years by not having to use Windows (well, not having to use it nearly as often) is worth the difference in price tenfold. :)

And in case you're looking for a job, it's hardly even worth it to check CL...95% of it are either scams or just bullshit.

Maybe it's only 5% that are any good, but I found my current job in IT through a Craigslist posting. I make about $25/hour full-time, plus benefits. It's not the most exciting job in the world, but it's certainly better than most.

Yes, what Al said. And, I haven't had to reinstall an OS on this PowerBook since I got it in early 2004. Just upgraded from Panther to Tiger to Leopard. Leopard runs faster than Tiger ran which ran faster than Panther ran. And, to boot, no weird slowdowns over time, no registry congestion, no issues of any sort. And almost all of the software is 10x more lovely and user-friendly than any Windows software I've ever used. With AppleScript, I can easily write all sorts of useful scripts both at home and at work that save me a bunch of time, and the free Apple developer's tools are world-class (no, not perfect). You have to look at total cost of ownership, not the price tag (though you'll find that that's actually a lot more similar than you may think at first glance in many cases). Speaking as a Mac user that migrated from using Windows from 1993-2004 and hated Macs that entire time!

But... I digress... your mileage may vary. I have nothing against Windows users or people using Windows. It's totally a personal choice and a tool to get the job done. Nothing less, nothing more. And for the record, I wasn't the one who brought up the Windows vs OS X thing, Royalshin did... I only briefly defended a backhand remark made against "OS X users" which was totally out-of-place and pointless to begin with.

I do completely agree that London is the greatest city in the known multiverses. It's a bit woefully on the pricey and expensive side though :P Wish I was there right now.

Back on topic, I actually did get a few decent offers from the CL ad. It just took a few more days. I didn't go for any of them (nothing I needed or wanted), but I did get lots of NES/SNES/Genesis games and lots offers. Never heard back from the Intellivision guy though.

But i do like craigslist though...only for jobs though....just wish they would get shot of those 'get rich quick' schemes that clog up the jobs section (no need for it)

I used gumtree for the same reason...nice jobs (and no get rich quick schemes, so gumtree must have a better filter of that sort of cack)

Strange that there seems to be more sales jobs going in some of the US sections then there are in the London section (not fair)...not that i want to take work/jobs away for you people, especially since the likes of joeybastard has recently been laid off

I had a good CL deal on a bunch of 2600 games that I didn't think was gonna be completed last week. I was getting kind of aggravated because the seller replied to one email that she had the stuff, but didn't reply when I asked when I could pick it up.

Turns out she was on vacation (or so she says). She emailed me a second time with contact info, and the deal was done that day. I wound up getting a title Match Pro Wrestling with instructions and a Double Dunk with instructions, plus lots of semi common games I already had and lots of instruction books.

I've had great luck both buying and selling on CL. When you figure in direct selling ads and garage sale ads in the summer, I'll bet that at least 1/2 of my collection could be attributed to CL.

I'm still smarting about the recent one that got away. Ad stated they 2 Atari systems for sale - $25. Reading further revealed that what they had was a Coleco Gemini and a 7800 with all controllers and about 45 games. I must have just missed out because it was posted only a couple of hours before. :x
