What kind of TV?

Recommended Posts

The console Zenith in the den... I think it was probably 27". Later when I got a C64 my parents bought me my own small Zenith... don't remember exactly what size, but less than 19". When we first hooked the C64 up to it, the screen did this weird bouncing thing... we tried it on the Zeniths in the den and my parents' bedroom, and the same thing happened, and then we tried it on the B&W 5" RCA TV/radio that I'd used for my bedroom TV up until then, and it worked fine. We called the Zenith guy (small town in the 80s, only TV store, he knew everyone by name and made housecalls) and he said it was a known compatibility problem but he could fix it, and he came over, opened the TV and did something with a screwdriver, and then it worked. (Did anyone else have this problem? And if so, do you know what it was he did?)

THAT brings back memories!

People never get their television's repaired anymore, just chunk them and buy another.

When I was a kid there was a place called "Owens TV Shop" just up the road from my house and he dealt in RCA and Zenith. He would come out to the house with a huge bag full of electronic tools and take our tv apart and fix it :)

If it was a serious problem and the tv had to go to the shop he would always leave us a little black and white loaner tv until our big console was fixed.

Those were the days!

Hi Willy,

Huh, tell me about it. When I go to the Hunts Point section of the Bronx, there stack up to the buildings. Damn shame what they do to those TV sets.

Anthony....

Hi Willy,

Anthony My Main Man from The Bronx and one half of the Grits and Pasta Coalition ;)

Good to see you so active on the forums nowadays. I hope the Christmas Cloggery at work hasn't screwed your day on the ole postal route.
