Europe vs America Mega ST

Hi everybody,

 

I live in Colombia and I have an Atari 1040ST with SC1224 monitor.

 

Here we use 110 V, 60 Hz electrical power and the TV system is the same used in USA (NTSC).

 

I am considering to purchase an Atari Mega ST from europe but I am affraid if using this machine here in Colombia would be problematic.

 

The issues I am affraid about are these:

 

1. Can I use my SC1224 with the european Mega ST ?

2. How could I solve the differences in electrical power required ? Is it enough using an elevator (from 110 volts to 220 volts) or will I need something to change frequencies (from the colombian outlet of 60 Hz to the european 50 Hz frequency).

3. Last one: I have upgraded my 1040 with Rainbow TOS (1.4), could I put this ROMs in the Mega ST?

Path of least resistance would be to swap in a 110V power supply.

Megas can take Rainbow TOS, they did come in both flavors (6 chip and 2 chip)

Probably the best thing to do would be to change the power supply, but a step down transformer would be OK, I have used these in the past to use a USA 5200 and 7800 on a UK 240volt supply, they do run quite hot though.

Also check that the voltage dropper has enough power for your needs
