Want to TRADE NEW 80GB PS3 for OLD 60GB PS3

Recommended Posts

I have just recieved my PS3 in the mail straight from Tiger Direct, just to find out this NEW 80GB is not compatible with PS2 Games. What I have to offer is a CIB "SEALED" "Never Used" 80GB PS3 that I wish to trade for a 60GB PS3

Let Me Know,

Bryan

Is this just the system? like this: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...&CatId=3401

I may be interested in the trade - I have a like new 60GB PS3 in perfect shape that I don't even really play games on, I just use it to watch the occasional Blu-Ray DVD - I have watched <10 movies on it and I have played games on it for maybe 2-3 hours total. I have never used it for PS2 games since I have a 'real' PS2 for that. I would need to be sure that the 1 yr. warranty would work for a 2nd owner though...

I can't imagine why they would take the PS2 aspect out of the PS3.

I have the original 80gig machine with ps2 functionality. One of the reasons I got it was the huge library of ps2 titles playable on it.

Why do companies do such stupid things?

An attempt to make more money selling the older PS2's they still have left would be my guess.

Nope, they did it to cut costs on making the PS3.

Yeah that makes sense too. Isn't it the lack of the emotion engine that makes PS2 games unplayable on PS3's? I guess leaving this out would save Sony some money.

Sony is supposed to restore some PS2 compatibility in the near future via a firmware update, since they plan on selling some downloadable PS2 titles over PSN. It's hard to say whether they'll let you play your own discs though. Being Sony, they'll probably require the emulator to be embedded in the PS2 game for it to be playable.

I would've bought a PS3 this year when my 'fat' PS2 died but because of the backward compatibility BS, I ended up getting a 360 arcade and a used 'slim' PS2.

I hope you get one. I've had my 60gb for about 2 years now, and it has played every PS1 & 2 game that I have put in it. I am tempted to get another one just to have a spare.

Sony amazes me... "Hey, our console isn't selling as well as we want. No one seems to want to play PS3 games, but we have by far the largest library of things you can play on the console when you consider PS1 and 2. So let's save money by taking the ability to play those out."

I think they figured the software library would naturally build itself and knew that they needed to drop the cost of the unit in order to increase profits (technically that should probably be "decrease losses"), so they excised the emotion engine from the system.

What confuses me is why they have software-based compatibility for some systems and not for others.

anicetyguy - Did you send him a PM as well? If he didn't subscribe to the thread, the PM may still give him an e-mail notification assuming he checks the account he used when he registered. There is also the possibility the deal worked out elsewhere, however I find that rather unlikely since 60 GB PS3s are pretty hot.
