PAL game compatablility

Does a PAL cart, when used in a US console, have screen roll or does it just not work at all? Not sure if I have a PAL game or if the cart is bad.

All of my 2600 PAL carts work on my US system..its hooked up to a Monitor with vertical hold adjustment knob..

but also, my 2600 was modded to hook up into my Monitor via A/V jacks

I have a couple of pal games. And when i play them on my ntsc light sixer the colour is well in black+white, and with alittle screen roll. but sound is ok.
