eightbit #1 Posted December 18, 2008 (edited) I recently acquired an original Sunnyvale model heavy sixer for the amazingly low price of 20 bucks, and have a question on restoration. I heard something "floating" around inside, so I opened it to find that one of the plastic clips that holds on the plastic piece on the top cover that the six switches go in to was broken. When it is closed it is not like it gets pushed in or anything, but I would like to try to replace this nonetheless. Also, the orange painted stripe that goes around this is almost completely worn away, as I have seen in many Atari 2600 consoles. My questions are: What is this called? The bezel? Can a 6 switch plastic piece from a "light sixer" be used as a replacement? Even better, can I *get* a replacement part somewhere? Thanks for any help! Prodos8 #2 Posted December 18, 2008 Switch panel or bezel is what I call it. I don't know of anyone or place that sells them so your best bet would be to pick up another sixer preferably broken with a good case. If its popping up or something you could probably just glue it in place as there's really no reason to ever remove it. All the parts except the bottom of the case are basically interchangeable between the heavy and light sixers.

Just one note if you are a purist. While the top portion is interchangeable, there is a slight difference in the font used from the heavy to the light sixer. The light sixer has a slightly thicker, brighter font on all the switch labels. It's an improvement, making it easier to read, but just something to keep in mind if you want a 100% original parts heavy sixer. (Confession, I switched it out on my heavy sixer because it looks better, but I have held onto the original cover). You probably already know this, but you can either swap out the entire top as one piece (i.e. switch labels, top, and wood trim), or just pop out the orange-framed switch label piece. shadow460 #5 Posted December 19, 2008 I recommend using epoxy to mount theone you have. Just put a dot of it where the broken plastic piece is and it'll hold the bezel down. You will be able to peel it off if the need arises to remove the bezel. Another idea is to use any super glue with cyanoacrylate or cyanoacrylate ester in it. That's the instant bonding stuff, and I've had the best luck using Radio Shack's version of it. With it, you can glue the broken plastic piece back in place where it is supposed to be. Let it set up in a clamp overnight (even though it bonds instantly, it does continue to dry and set the parts for up to 24 hours). The next day, remove the clamp and assemble your heavy sixer normally.
