Recommended Posts

a 1962 German tube radio worth about $400

I find this one hard to believe.

Believe it. Even works too. Once in awhile i get lucky just like the Turbo Duo at the flea market i found with a bunch of games for only $3 :)

I think the next time I put something near a garbage bin like an older computer, I'll take a nice dump in it first. :D

:rolling: LMAO. That reminds me of a quote from "Christine". The movie with the 58 Plymouth Fury. The detective had mentioned that one of the perps deficated on the dash board. His reply, "Shit wipes off" :D

I missed that one,or wasnt that...There was also the one line where the detective says"this guy was run over and squashed so bad by Christine that he had to be shoveled up",and the kid,Cunningham,(Christines driver/owner) says,"well isnt that how you pick up shit, with a shovel?"

How I do things is nothing compared to how the people coming across the border act. They leave messes, take anything that's not semi-broken and tend to fight, actually getting physical, over things that some places throw out.

I'm a lightweight doing it once or twice a month and if I see anything on a whim. Not even a hobby. So go ahead and be creeped out, it's all good, be glad you don't have thugs roaming the streets hunting for things and starting crap over throw-out items.

When I was living in El Paso there would always be Mexicans digging through the dumpsters every time I would take out the trash. I would just throw all of my garbage on top of them. I have no problem with dumpster diving but these guys were always there and they would always be in my way. The only thing that they would find in my trash bags is dirty diapers so they could dig all they want.

I try not to throw stuff on them but I don't take any special precautions either. They're the ones that will fight over stuff. But yeah, I know what you mean.

Your right. That was another line. I remember that one too. :)

Well, since trash pickup here is on Thrursday morning and it fell on Christmas day, its now being picked up this morning instead so we went out and i found these 2 items including a couple of pc tower cases and boards. Here, we have an iMac and a 1962 German tube radio worth about $400. Not a bad haul. A friend of mine said try next week as well. :D

The tube radio looks like a Loewe Opta.I picked up my loewe opta tube radio at the thrift it was still there!Since its a European radio,it obviously works with the european electrical standards, meaning it operates at different voltages? My radio only picks up 2 or 3 channels. It isnt exactly the same as yours, mine says 2718w on the back, and the wooden cabinet corners are round

Hi guys,

If you want to find some nice goodies, come to the "Hell's Kitchen Flea Market" in the west side in mid-town manhattan. You find things that is like a sand filled with buried treasure!

Mine is a Saba 90/11 k from germany that has 2 voltages. AM/FM and shortwave with 2 speakers. Here's a link for all information on this unit.

My last couple of days of "Holiday throw outs" Haven't been too bad. One towns has theirs on Monday night and another on Tuesday night . Ours is Wednesday night unless New Years throws it off, then it'll be Thursday night. Last night, i picked up some empty Guitar Hero Boxes, a VCR, a nice cassette deck, a vintage Kenwood stereo, and a 2 disc DVD player. Tonight, i ended up with an old boom box which i ended up throwing out, a tiny vintage 70's b&w TV, an empty Rock Band box from one place i went and a Rock Band guitar from another place. Some coincidence.

I live in a college town, so a couple times a year when the kids vacate the city they leave tons of stuff behind. In fact the laptop that I'm posting on right now as well as the table its on both came out of the trash. I've also scored 2 PS2's, a DreamCast, 2 20GB Ipod's, an Ipod mini, DVD player for the bedroom, a Kenwood CD player and numerous plastic storage items that students often use in their temporary housing. Most of the apartments rent the big roll back construction dumpsters so it makes the dumpster diving easy. My entire family participates in this, and we have a blast. On several occasions my sister and wife have found bags full of brand-name girls clothing with the tags still on, some of this stuff ended up at "Plato's Closet" resale shop. Last April they found the remnants (smelly jars full of chemicals) of a meth lab in a tool bag and promptly called Crime-Stoppers. This made us $450.00 in snitch fees. We've also found wallets with gift cards and a little cash, jewelery. The thing is the students can't fit this stuff in their Hondas so they just toss the stuff, or they go home in April but their lease isn't up till August, and they just leave their stuff for the one roommate or landlord to deal with. I don't dive at a individual residence but will stop and look if there is a pile.

There's a section of army housing here locally that has soldiers there for about a year at a time, and when they leave they throw everything away, too. You have to get there when they leave, though. Being a border town every migrant person goes and collects everything from the overflowing dumpsters they have. Discovered this by delivering pizzas at the time. No scores for me, I was on the clock.

Hey guys, I have a garbage heap right now. I think they (the large item bulk prison inmate brigade...s ervice of the Sherrifs Dept of Nashville, TN) are picking it up as I speak... but I thought I would give a perspective to this thread of what I'm throwing out, instead of what Ive found.

Frigidare Dishwasher

In-Sink-Erator

Four vaccume cleaners (eureka)

Tricycle with no seat

childs bike (someone may have taken it)

10 gallon aquarium with a crack on one end

13" color tv

rocking horse (somone took that already)

I hear ya. I used to work delivery in New Jersey couple years back and i usually worked between 9:00 a.m. and at least 8:00 p.m 5 days a week and i was driving the company vehicle but i used to sneak in a few finds once in awhile. No one ever said anything to me but then again maybe they never seen me doing it but i used to stop on my way to many places and pick up tvs, monitors, computers and just whatever i found. I once found a Sega Master system with everything you need to run it on the curb one day in my travels. I figured what the heck. Couldn't just pass it up even if i was on the clock. Just do my best to keep a low profile. I even scored a huge Commodore 64 lot with boxed items at a yard sale for only $3 when i was supposed to be making a delivery but i was quick about it.

A friend of mine had the ultimate set up back before he got married. He owned his own house and had a pick up truck so he hired himself out as a junk hauling service. You could hire him to clean out your attic, shed, basement, etc. and all items became his property to dispose of. He made out like a bandit. He got paid cash and got truck loads of stuff. What he wanted, he kept, everything else went to the landfill. He would then turn around and sell the better stuff that he wasn't interested in at a flea market to make more money. What a life.

Nice. I've known a couple of people in the past who did that for a living.

My uncle used to work at a dump and got all kinds of stuff.

see now that I don't really see a problem with that at all as long as the dump okays it. Really it's mostly how rude/creepy it is to dig through trash in front of somebody's house that I object to.

and I'm still very shocked that so few people have a problem with trash picking.

I lock mine so nobody bothers with my trash.

Something tells me you don't throw video game stuff away tho. So it doesn't even matter.

I picked up a 32inch TV for free. It was on Craigslist. It has no sound from the built in tuner, but is ok from the Video 1&2 source. So RF only systems will not work with sound.

I saw 5 other 27ince TV in the dumpster yesterday. I just did not feel like diving in since I had what I needed.

Not bad. I got my first 32 from my parents way back in the 90's, then awhile back, i think 4 years ago, i found a nice laptop at the curb, checked it out and it worked. Sold it for $280 and took the money and bought a Sony 32" Wega flat tube tv for $250. Worked for me.

Funny!

I only do it to keep the pickup truck guys away from the house. They are passing an ordinance here next election cycle that will prevent it anyway.

Passing that ordinance won't prevent anything. It'll only create one more stupid rule to be ignored.
