Lauren Tyler #1 Posted December 23, 2008 Battery pack kept coming loose and would require reinsertion to restart (although it wasn't really coming that loose.) But now it won't work at all. Works with AC Adaptor. I wonder if I need a new battery pack? (If I need a new PSP I'm gonna be pissed...)
shadow460 #2 Posted December 24, 2008 What type of PSP is it? 1000, 2000, or 3000? Still got the original battery door? Three pins make contact inside the PSP when the battery is installed. They contact with three slots on the battery pack. One of the pins may be bent or loose. Three plastic tabs hold the battery in place. If one of them is broke, that's why the battery comes loose. It's possible that if the battery fell out and hit something hard that it was damaged (Li-Ion cells don't like being dropped). Does the orange light come on when you plug the adapter in? My money is on the battery being hosed. IF you're missing the battery door, you can probably ask for one at your local game store or get one online. It's better than replacing batteries at $40 a pop. Lauren Tyler #3 Posted December 24, 2008 (edited) If the pins are bent then that means I need a new PSP, right? Still, the orange light comes on, but the battery can still come loose easily, meaning the light goes out. And I do have a battery cover, but one of the tabs are broken, causing it to be slightly loose. Can you replace them though? Oh, and it's a 2000 model. (the white one with Darth Vader on the back.) shadow460 #4 Posted December 25, 2008 Probably the easiest way to tell if your battery or your PSP is giving you trouble is to borrow a battery and try it out. You can replace the typical battery cover, but I don't know if you will be able to one with the Vader on it. They're not sold at retail, but you might be able to get a blank white one from GameStop if you go in and ask for it. You can find all kinds of replacement PSP parts on ebay. Give vpgames.com a try--they've set me up with a couple of faceplates. If you look into the battery compartment, just to the left of the pins you will see a groove in the plastic. The top of that engages a tab on the battery. If the top is split or the tab is worn off the battery, that's going to release the battery from your PSP. The other option is an Extended Life battery kit, which will come with a rather large battery and a pair of battery doors. Somewhere the large white battery door was offered for sale by itself. If the pins are bent, you should be able to straighten them out. Also try contacting Sony. If they've got parts, you may be able to buy direct from them. Lauren Tyler #5 Posted December 25, 2008 Well the PSP works when the AC adapter is inserted, so I'm thinking it might be the battery. I'll try going out after work tomorrow or on Saturday to see if I can get a new battery pack and a battery door. I don't care if it's a different color, I can always repaint it or something. shadow460 #6 Posted December 25, 2008 There ya go. I was thinking yesterday that the battery's EEPROM might have got corrupted somehow. If you've got access to a modded PSP, it's possible to flash it with a Pandora battery maker. I don't know which ones flash the entire EEPROM, if any. All of them flash the serial number. The battery can be flashed in either a phat or the earlier slim PSP's. If you wanna try that method, I'd head over to maxconsole.com and try out the forums. Buying a new battery is going to be the easiest route, though. I've heard the new batteries can't be flashed for Pandora purposes, FYI.
Lauren Tyler #7 Posted December 26, 2008 It's not modded. So a new battery will do the trick? I hope you're right...
shadow460 #8 Posted December 27, 2008 It should. If you can find one used at a mom and pop place, they may let you test the battery and see if it will work. PM me if you're interested in custom firmware for the unit.
Lauren Tyler #9 Posted December 27, 2008 No thanks. I'll keep my PSP the way it is.
