scorpion #1 Posted December 23, 2008 Hello. Im from the uk and just wondered if ntsc atari carts will work on a uk atari 2600? Im having trouble getting hold of certain carts here in the uk and thought about buying them from the united states. Thanks.
iwan-iwanowitsch-goratschin #2 Posted December 23, 2008 99% of the NTSC carts run on a PAL system!
scorpion #3 Posted December 23, 2008 Is there a speed difference or do they run at the same speed?
simonsunnyboy #4 Posted December 23, 2008 Mainly an issue of the TV in use and not of the console itself...all 2600 games are timed with the VBL so a NTSC game should play with NTSC speed on a NTSC TV set and a PAL machine.

That's the wrong way round. The Atari doesn't sync to the VBL, the VBL is dictated by the game! PAL game NTSC console = 50fps (usually slower gameplay) NTSC game PAL console = 60fps (normal gameplay) Any mismatch will have the wrong colours too. Mayhem #6 Posted December 23, 2008 Yeah they will almost all work fine, but as stated NTSC games will run faster than their PAL counterparts (a good thing, original speed) but you'll get the wrong colours because the palettes are different.
