THE 1 2 P's Demo/Import/Gaming Blog - Doom 3

Recommended Posts

I finally beat Doom 3 today on my Xbox. Doom 3 is one of those games I've been playing on and off since I got it back in 2006. Back then I purchased the special edition at Toys R Us for $19.99 during one of their sales. Since then I've added the regular version and the expansion/stand alone follow up game Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil, but I haven't played any of those yet. But back to my synapsis of Doom 3.

For all my hard work that I put into this game for three years straight, I was kind of dissappointed with the ending. I'm not exactly sure what I was expecting but what I got was less than inspired. I did enjoy the final boss battle. And the game as a whole was very fun too. I used the shotgun way too much but mainly as a way to conserve ammo for the good weapons for times when I really needed them. I also loved the Soul Cube weapon. Any weapon that actually says "use us" can only be a good thing. The Soul Cube is the most powerful weapon in the game, even more so than the BFG9000. It's basically a one-hit kill and instant health pack in one. It kills your targeted enemie by sucking all of it's life out and then tranfers all that energy to your health. It reminded me a little bit of Star Wars: KOTOR when you use your force drain power for the very same effect.

One thing I definitely hated about the game was Sarge. You play a space marine in the game and Sarge is basically your commander. So during this entire crisis of Hell being unleashed on the Mars base you are stationed at, everytime you talk to Sarge he's telling you to rendevu/meet up with Bravo/Alpha team at the next level. Well much like Dr. Sam Becket never returned home in Quantum Leap, you never get to meet up with any other marines.....that were alive. You meet up with plenty of living scientist, but they are all useles in battle. So I was upset that I never got to fight in battle with my comrades(even briefly) like I did in the Halo series. However, I was definitely happy when I got to fight Sarge as a boss character later in the game. I showed him how much he pissed me off by leading me on.

Although not having any marine buddies to fight with was slightly agitating, you do get to fight along side sentry bots a few times thru out the game. Those little guys are tough.....I wish they could have rolled with me alittle bit longer. But they would have needed a way to climb stairs.

My suggestions for Doom 4 are pretty straight forward. First, make sure the fucking flashlight is attached to the gun. Or attach the flashlight to his helmet(Halo style) or chest plate (Silent Hill style) so that he can use it all the time with any gun. Maybe they will restrict it to a single gun but I'll take that over switching between the two anyday. And my last complaint, for the love of Paul---no more enemies that spawn behind you. Thats just gay......no offense to any homosexual people reading this. So flashlight attached to gun and no more houdini enemies magically appearing behind where I just walked thru.

Now it's time to play Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil and time to finish Farcry, Half-Life 2 and a bunch of other shit. If only I had more time.....
