I really like x4.42. Last night for the very first time in 20+ years of owning it, I finally heard my Indus GT read and write in hi-spd mode.

Hi, I was wondering if anything else other than the SDX4.22 file could be put into this space. Like Basic XE or Mac/65 or any other rom or blank.

Nope.. Unfortunately, the OSS language carts use a completely different banking scheme.

 

You could however put Diamond OS, Express, or the MIO diagnostic cart rom on the same EPROM with SDX and switch between them. All of these carts used the SDX banking scheme.

That is interesting. I have never had any problems with Mac65 and SDX. I cannot remember if I had 4.19 or not.

I did however swap processors till I got a good one to run SDX, Rtime8, mac65 and mio all at once.

I must say my mac65 is a special that I made that also has action,basicxl and basicxe.

Heh. Well, don't feel bad.. Niether BASIC XE, or MAC/65 works in the passthrough slot of the ORIGINAL ICD SPartaDOS X 4.19 cart I have here.. They both lock up when you type CAR

same here sparta, rtime 8, basic xe, express cart, and a mio with no problems popping around them all. Using the same 320XE we ran the boards on. Never liked the tower of carts behind the XE but once they were all stacked I did not want to disturb them! So I left em that way!

 

I sure hope that now that I had to take em apart to reorganise the stack to put the maxflash version at the top that I haven't lost the proper order to run them all together again. The MaxFlash does not have the pass thru

Because of the lack of pass-through connectors on most carts, would it be feasible to create a new clock that plugs into a joystick port? Of course, that would require a software update in Sparta 4.4X. Perhaps there are other clock projects that have already been done?

Have you tried the UltraSpeed rom patch for the Indus that was developed last year? That was a very nice hack!

There is the ARC, Atari Real Clock. But it is not a separate device, it can be either built into the computer or into the SDX cartridge.

 

Maybe instead of creating a clock that works through the joystick ports, it would be better to create an adapter that plugs into the cartridge port of the computer and provides additional 3-4 cartridge ports on it, each one with a switch to activate and deactivate it on demand?

There are numerous I2C parts that could meet that bill - some are available on boards already ,needing only to plug in to the Atari and have some software written. For example, http://www.futurlec.com/Mini_DS1307.shtml or http://www.futurlec.com/Mini_PCF8583.shtml are $7.90 each, and would require a D9 F connector and a 5 connector to plug in to your Atari. All you need then is the I2C work done by Gus Assman and HiassofT; see the thread at http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=135092.

The site that hosts sdx.atari8.info has a javascript virus on pretty much every page (they may have been hacked, see bottom of the page between --ad-- tags). Anyhow, I was able to manually get the files using wget and download the zips. The file that works with Atari800WinPLus is http://sdx.atari8.info/sdx_files/4.42/sdx442_emu.zip and the ZIP file is corrupt so that only SDX442_MAXFLASH8.car is a valid image and needs to be manually extracted. After all this it works great when attached as a cart to the emulator.

Thanks for the report, it's true - we have been hacked

It should be fixed by know. I have also added some security enhancements.

Anyway, we are considering to move to a more secure server.

When I use SDX 4.42, I can now get hi-speed access on my indus and xf551 drives. Copying files and accessing dirs all works great in hi-speed. However the utils I have written are unable to access the drives in hi-speed mode. There must be some SIO command to DCB I have missed or something.... anyone know what I need to do? A document or something?

See the chapter "SpartaDOS User Accessible Data Table" in the SpartaDOS X manual. There is a pointer to the hi-speed SIO routine under COMTAB-10.

The pointer is preceded with a jump command (at COMTAB-11).

Bump! Just did a switchless version of Ken's SDX cart mod (i.e. permanently version 4.43) and it works great.
