sandmountainslim #1 Posted December 28, 2008 I can use Stella online and play any rom in the database or posted here on AA but when I save a game or file to my desktop and try to open it with Stella I get ".......file is not a valid Win32 Application" What am I doing wrong? I saved files the same way on my girlfriends computer and they opened with Stella just fine. Had this problem with Rom Hunters files he gave us and with any game I try to save to desktop. Buzbard #2 Posted December 28, 2008 (edited) Sounds like you don't have the rom's extension associated with Stella. Right-click the rom file then select 'Open'. You should see a dialog box saying "Windows cannot open this file:". Make sure "Select the program from a list" is selected then click OK. You should now see an "Open with" dialog box. If Stella is not in the list of programs, click the browse button and find Stella.exe Make sure "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is selected then click OK. You should now be able to open the rom file with Stella. It's also a good idea to make sure all of your rom files have the same extension, usually .a26 or .bin Edited December 28, 2008 by Buzbard

Righ click then "open with" I choose Stella and I get a box saying "not a valid Win32 applicaton" whatever in highest Hell that means. Works fine on my girlfriend's PC doing the exact same thing. It opens files from the internet just fine just not when I save to desktop I meant what version of stella like 2.6.1 or similar. If you right click on your stella.exe file it should bring up a menu, choose properties. On the window that comes up choose version at the top.
