Looking for a very obscure old PC shareware beat em up

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody,

I've gotten pretty obsessed with finding this old shareware game I played on the PC back in the early-mid nineties and so far have had no luck locating it. Here's all that I can remember about it:

Shareware PC game (I remember playing it off of the shareware discs from the electronics stores)

Release date: 1992-1994 (guesstimate)

Genre: Beat-em-up

Gameplay: I remember it having a definite monster/horror theme. I want to say that you actually played as monsters too, but I could be wrong. It was also a pretty bloody game; it might have been rated M.

I looked through all the beat em up games listed on gamefaqs, allgame, and wikipedia all to no avail. If anybody could offer any ideas I'd definitely appreciate it.

P.S. If anybody knows a site that lists all the old shareware games that would be very helpful as well. So far I haven't been able to find such a site though, unfortunately.

Haha awesome, Executioners did end up being the one I was looking for. I'm very surprised somebody knew that game. Thanks for the help!

By the way, after a bunch of searching around I found out that the full version is available as freeware on the company's website (http://www.bloodlustsoftware.com/executioners.html) but it doesn't seem to work (you can't get past the title screen). The one that works is the demo, which can be found here:

You need to use a DOS emulator to get it to work (dosbox was the one everybody recommended, which I used) but unfortunately the sound doesn't work.

Anyway, this brings back a lot of memories. Nostalgia is a funny thing; it sure has a way of blocking out all negative aspects of anything you liked as a kid. It's hard to believe how much different the game actually is compared to how I remembered it. This game was made by high school students and it definitely looks and plays like it. It's still pretty fun though despite having extremely cheap and frustrating bosses. The highlight of the demo has to be the boss of the first level; he pukes copious amounts of vomit on you, pulls off one of his arms and whacks you with it, and throws his own head like a boomerang. Pretty damn hilarious. Thanks again for the help in finding this.

Haha that's awesome that you found the original Executioners disc. My shareware disc has been gone for over a decade I'm sure. Fire it up if you have a super old machine lying around.
