Gregory DG #1 Posted December 29, 2008 Well, I've decided to give my son my old silver DS Phat. Shoot, he plays it as much as I do anyway. And it might have been an easy handoff except that he yakked all over it the other night getting puke inside the nooks and crannys including the cart slot and stylus holder. It's pretty gross. So what I decided to do was remove the old faded and scratched silver shell and replace it with a red shell (which is on the way, along with a tri-wing screwdriver.) With this change, I've decided to call this the Phoenix DS. Now the other thing I want to do is get a skin for it with a firebird or a phoenix on it. But I can't seem to find one with that type of logo on it. So far I've looked: http://www.decalgirl.com/browse.cfm/2,194.htm http://www.designerskins.com/skins/ds/ http://www.videogame-skins.com/index.php?m...76687cdb01841bb But I can't find a firebird/phoenix skin. Now I noticed that Decagirlhas a template where you can submit your own skin and they'll make it, but I don't have the talent to pull of something professionally nice. Any help or suggestions would be welcome. I'll keep this thread updated with the progress. So far my son is super excited!
Gregory DG #2 Posted December 29, 2008 Either of these two images would look sweet on the back of a DS!
FastRobPlus #3 Posted December 29, 2008 I would not trust 3rd party replacement cases. I don't think they bother to use safe chemicals in the manufacture of thier plastics.

shadow460 #5 Posted December 30, 2008 As for the Phoenix, why not do a screen capture from any FF game that features it and submit that? On the silver case, you might be able to respray it. Once that's done, place your decal on it and spray the whole thing with clear coat. You're going to have to bake the clear coat, though. Someone who refinishes guitars could probably do this for a premium.
Gregory DG #6 Posted December 30, 2008 The red case is already on it's way. Good point about the plastics, but (other than it being too late) I don't expect it to be harmful. As for taking an image from a game, the guys who make the skins won't do anything that's copyrighted.
Gregory DG #7 Posted January 9, 2009 Ok, got the replacement shell tonight and got it 90% swapped (I'll post photos soon.) Only problem is that the contrast on the top screen is really light. I've pulled out the ribbon cables and pushed them back in a bunch of times with no luck. Any ideas?

Gregory DG #9 Posted January 9, 2009 No, he's 5. Contrast is still hosed, but there's been a new development. While fiddling with the ribbon connectors, I broke the tiny "clip" on the little three wire cable. So now the thing won't even turn on. I guess I could solder it, but I'm the world's worst solderer and this is very tiny work. So I guess it's toast. He's pretty disappointed, as am I.
