Another problem with my 360!

Recommended Posts

Now I'm getting pissed off!

A few weeks ago I had to send off my 360 to be repaired following a RROD. Microsoft replaced the board and DVD drive. Now I'm having problems reading disks and it seems to be getting worse.

I'm NOT IMPRESSED!! :x

Hopefully they dont give me a dud or at least give me back my original (fixed).

I'm still waiting to get mine back.

Personally I'd send it back to them and tell them to fix it right.

I had the disk reading issue for awhile on one of mine. Generally it would happen when the 360 was in the horizontal position. If I switched to the vertical it worked fine. Months later it quit reading disks altogether, although I'm thinking that might have been unrelated. Still... get them to fix it right.

Mine's standing vertical and I thought that might be the problem.

How do I install something on the HD?

Has anyone tried to fill out an Online Repair Request recently? If so, were you successful?

My story.....

My 4th 360 since launch died Dec. 26th. I had recently been getting a lot of freezes while playing games and having to reset the console. Then, I could no longer reset it and play as it would freeze during the loading of the NXE (and put a pattern on the screen, like diamonds or triangles when it froze), and when I reset the console, I would get 3 red lights. I would reset a few times and get past 3 red lights, it would start to load, freeze again, I'd reset, and then three red lights.

So I went online to start a repair request. System said I had to register my console before filling out a request. I shrugged my shoulders and filled out the registration, only to be told that my console had already been registered. Huh? I found that I was caught in a loop as I couldn't fill out a repair request until I registered the console but the system kept saying that my console was already registered.

After many attempts online at making out a repair request, I finally eyed the telephone with GREAT hesitation as I've dealt with the 1-800 people before. But unlike past attempts, this time my call went right thru (no waiting at all) and I got a representative who I could understand perfectly (and understood me). He asked one question: did I follow the online troubleshooting tips and I responded yes. He apologized for my inconvinence and started a repair request by verifying my info and gave me a reference number. He said I should receive the coffin in 5 business days and that was it.... painless and efficient.

I still can't do anything online as it shows I have no current repair requests and there is no place for me to enter the reference number I was given to see if the coffin has been shipped.

So, I'm curious if anyone else filled out an online repair request recently and if you were succesful or not.

I had to call them and register my console...then I started the repair request with them while I was on the phone. After getting a confirmation number, I also received an email that told me to log onto support.xbox.com and print my shipping label. I tried that, but they don't show that my console is registered or that I have initiated a repair request. I already spend 45 minutes on the phone with them...and I really don't want to have to do it again...but its been 2 weeks and I'd like to send off my dead xbox. Guess I'll call them AGAIN today.

Compared to the other times I've dealt with MS Support on getting a repair, this time has been easy.

As I previously said, I experienced no wait time or long delays when I called the 1-800 phone number. The rep I talked with on the phone spoke perfect English, was courteous, and very efficent. The coffin arrived today, as promised, and I'll drop off my console either tomorrow or Monday at UPS.

Though I still can't see anything about my repair request when I go online at xbox.com, this has been a totally painless experience so far.... especially compared to the nightmares I endured with MS Support while getting repair requests for consoles #2 and #3.

My intention is to buy the very last Xbox 360 that rolls off the assembly line. Hopefully THAT one will be free of defects... :ponder:
