It probably needs to download updates to play the game. Can you be more specific about exactly what the message on the screen is telling you?

Huh? It's not too complicated.

1. Go to Google and punch in "xbox backwards compatibility"

2. End up at the "How To Get Original Xbox Game Support for Xbox 360" web page. Read it.

3. Download this zipped file that contains the Original Xbox Game Support November 2007 Update. (No more are coming, so this is the last file you'll get.)

4. Unzip the file to get the default.xex file. Burn it onto a CD. Load CD into Xbox 360. It will update automatically.

5. You will then be able to play the Xbox games on this list.

You can also just download the individual emulators for each game. (Provided it's on the BC list) That is what it is telling you to download.

As long as you have an internet connection, shouldn't take long at all.

I believe that the 360 utilizes a single XBox emulator with various emulator configurations (files that inform the emulator of what features to use and code paths to take) for each game. That is speculation on my part because there isn't a lot of information out there on how it works. What I do know for sure is that when you pop in an XBox disc and it does an update you don't have to download another when you pop in a different game you haven't played before. Only one download is needed when an update to the list occurs and the update takes place no matter which game you insert. I know that the XBox website says that each game needs to download an emulator but I don't think this terminology is correct.

This is an interesting read about backwards compatibility though most of what is discussed pretty much applies to any platform emulation. It doesn't really say much about XBox BC specifically but it is interesting nonetheless: http://blogs.msdn.com/xboxteam/articles/On...patibility.aspx

Ah, I didn't realize that, probably because I've only played one original Xbox game in the 360 and that was Morrowind. I just assumed based on the Live.com page you had to do it for every one you inserted. In any case I'm guessing gamedude doesn't have his 360 connected to the internet or it should just kick off the update automatically. Only alternative to that is to do like Snider-man said and burn an update disk or I think you can send in for an update disk off the Live.com site.

I thought the latest Dashboard update included all the orginal XBOX content.

Worked for me on my new Elite.
