Atari 2700.....Bah

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. In my quest to make things ergonomic and just plain more simple. I have come up with something. I do realize this may have been done before but thought I would share. Did you ever get tired of pulling out the wireless controller set and just get tired of moving the wires or place the reciever in another spot that would be out of the way of the switches? I have come up with a solution that was not very hard at all. I simply took apart a wireless reciever from one of my game mates and incorporated it inside one of the six switch consoles I have. It works great and I thought there might be an interference problem but there isn't. Worked out just fine. This is just the first model I have made and my next one will be more discreet and more inconspicuous with the wires. Just gotta sit down and figure that one out first. Shouldn't be too hard but maybe more time consuming I'd say. Well, here it is. Tell me what you think.

Looks great! A nice addition to this mod would be to wire the receivers internally, leaving the controller jacks exposed. Then you could add a switch to select between the wireless controllers and regular controllers.

That is very cool. I got a set of those sticks too. I haven't looked at the innards yet to size it all up.

Surprised it fit ok though!!!

For the jacks, I wouldn't bother unless you are real good with soldering. Though it would be nice and tidy.

A wired/wireless switch might be tricky since the switch would be pretty large I imagine.

Another thing you could do is just leave the jacks intact and jumper wire the contacts to the wireless. Then a simple power switch for the wireless could be employed instead. The power switch would be a LOT smaller than a 9 or 18 lead switch. The jacks would just be a pass through when the wireless is off. Still a pain soldering but hey! :)

Great work!

Cool.

I had plans to do something like that with some 3rd party controllers, but lost interest. I liked the controllers better than the "platform shoe" looking Atari branded ones and I thought the receiver would probably fit inside the 2600. The antenna on the receiver stows inside the unit which I thought would have made for a very "factory" looking install.

Anyway...nice work, good luck with the next revision, wanna buy some wireless controllers? ;)
