KIWASABI #2 Posted January 4, 2009 Hi guys, Anybody here love the Battletoads series? I Love them and wish Rare made more for its hardcore audience. Anthony.... The original Battletoads is the best 2d game ever made in my opinion. Battletoads/Double Dragon NES was also good. Battletoads in Battlemaniacs wasn't so hot, but the arcade Battletoads is pretty awesome. I would also love to see a true sequel to the original. There never was much of a sequel, just the spinoff Battletoads/Double Dragon and the rehash Battletoads in Battlemaniacs. Rare's too busy making crap these days though to make real games. Gregory DG #3 Posted January 4, 2009 Love the original NES and Genesis games. Hard as heck though, I don't think I ever completed them. Got pretty far though.
Royalshin #4 Posted January 4, 2009 Great game but here is the sad part. Rare reused most of it's Battle Toads programming in all games it made after that. Just try any other adventure game that is out there. I also suspect they did the same thing with other games of the same gere. A great example is the targeting boss scene or enemies attacking from the background. Like where Sqauresoft reused most of it's previous enemies and events from past games. Take for example the Mammoth Machine in Chorno Trigger. About BattleToads. I remember watching the cartoon series ( and mimicing ) on television. I beleive there was one Battle Toads where they had Double Dragon as a cameo. However the game was quite rarely ( get it ) availible to me. Asides the obvious Rare Nintendo games. I probably randomly played the game at a arcade that was around. When they still had arcades
jboypacman #5 Posted January 4, 2009 BattleToads was a fun game me and my friends would play every once in a while but we played more Double Dragon and Streets of Rage then anything else.
2600Lives #6 Posted January 4, 2009 It was good, but it can never rise to legendary status because of it'd ridiculous difficulty status. There is fun challenging and then there is BULLSHIT challenging, and this one falls into the latter category. Oh, man, do I love the arcade game, though. Nothing more fun than giving the beanbag or a giant rat the ol' one-two!

Nothing more fun than giving the beanbag or a giant rat the ol' one-two! Favorite game for the NES and one of the best all time. This is the second time in the last year someone mentioned the bullshit difficulty factor and I saw it written in article that way as well(I guess that would be three mentions.) What parts of the game do players find the toughest? The biggest drawback for me is the unicycle stage glitch.
Gregory DG #8 Posted January 7, 2009 I was just playing it last night on my DS (via NES emulator.) One of the hardest parts for me is the frickin' snake level. If you don't jump just right, you'll hit one of those star-spike things and die. The other one is the tubes where you have to avoid more of those spikes and electric fish/eels swimming around. The bikes are tough because you have to move up/down very fast near the end. Going up the shaft is tough too because you have to time everything perfectly or you get gassed/electrocuted. I think it's generally accepted that this is one very hard game.

I think it's generally accepted that this is one very hard game. The snake level isn't too bad once you memorize all of the patterns. It becomes pretty intuitive over time. I agree that that Terra Tubes is one of the hardest levels because of all the stupid sharks, eels, and fish that bump you into the spikes. Also, the rubby ducks that just autokill you are completely ridiculous. I think that the unicycle level isn't too bad once you get used to it. I just hate the boss. It's a big electrically charged sphere; how much more boring of a boss can you get? So for me I suppose that the Terra Tubes is one of the hardest levels. Rat Race used to be really hard for me but once I got the hang of it it wasn't too bad. Overall Battletoads is actually an extremely fair game; it just requires tons of practice. I think that Battletoads was a very interesting and very successful experiment. Basically to me it seems that the game designers made the game as hard as possible while still keeping the game fair (for the most part).
