Rik #1 Posted January 8, 2009 I have 2 Atari 410's.Problem is,is that they both have no belt that attach to motor to turn spindle.I tried various rubber bands, cant find the right tension or length.Anyone know were or how to get the right ones,or what size they are?One of the motors seems to be going also.Id like to swap parts between them. Rybags #4 Posted January 11, 2009 I've heard of people here using Dental Floss, don't remember if it was on tape or disk drives, but I think some success was reported.
Rik #5 Posted January 11, 2009 (edited) I've heard of people here using Dental Floss, don't remember if it was on tape or disk drives, but I think some success was reported. Thats a good idea. It'll be just a Bitch to get the right tension.Ill try that.Thanx for the tip! Edited January 11, 2009 by Rik
spookt #6 Posted January 11, 2009 I've successfully replaced the belts on 1010s. I just measured the belts and looked for the closest match I could find. IIRC I used a belt with a circumference very slightly larger than the original part and it worked fine. However I guess you'll still be looking at mail order. I did try regular rubber bands but without success.

If you give me an address and explain a little where the belt is I'll mail you the belt. I was going to take the mech out anyway and put a hard drive in it (IDE2SIO upgrade...). Hi,and thank you for the generous offer. If you want to send it to me,heres how to take the belt out.1st,remove the 4 screws on bottom of 410 casing.2nd,you'll see a green circuit board, take out the 3 or 4 screws holding it down. You see the belt going around the top black pulley, which goes to a silver metal pullley.3rd,you'll see a white plastic thing with a screw on each end,on top of pulley, remove the screws so you can take out belt, better to remove it from the black pulley first.I'll PM you with the sending info if you still want to send it to me,Thanx again!!!!!!!!!! Math You #11 Posted January 26, 2009 The rubber band was probably too stretchy. Maybe an 'o' ring would have worked.
Rik #12 Posted January 27, 2009 Yeah, the belt has to be more like a cord, not stretchy like a rubber band, a tricky thing to find
