C-64 question

Guess this is the best place to put this.

 

Ok, so I'm going through the LONG and arduous task of cataloging ALL of the programs and games on ALL of my Commodore disks. I have almost 300, so this is going to take a while. I'm sure 64 users are familiar with the "out of memory" error. My question is, is there some way of resetting the memory without turning the system off? I'd rather not have to toggle it off over and over just to do all this cataloging. I'm using a Fastload cartridge, too (and if there's a soft reset, that would also be great). Thanks in advance!

It's not out of memory, it's just that lots of stuff will leave Basic's pointers in a mess.

 

SYS 6473 is the coldstart routine. Of course, if Basic is screwed to the point where it can't accept commands then you'll need to power off.

 

Another alternative is to just wire in a hard Reset switch.

 

ed - even that's not 100% effective, since some games just put the cartridge signature bytes around $8000 or whatever, and can trap the Reset.
