user42
OK , Both AtariAge and Atarimania make mention of a "Kid Vid Controller", see links... http://www.atariage.com/software_page.html...wareLabelID=443 http://www.atariage.com/software_page.html...twareLabelID=27 http://www.atarimania.com/detail_soft.php?...VERSION_ID=8174 http://www.atarimania.com/detail_soft.php?...ERSION_ID=11889 ....but from what I can tell there is no "Kid Vid Controller". I can find no photos of one. Neither of the manuals for either of the two games makes any mention of a special controller. And if one did come with the Kid Vid wouldn't it be in this photo? Does anyone have any proof of a "Kid Vid Controller"?
IHATETHEBEARS
As far as I understand, there is no controller. The Kidvid is that tape recorder. Believe it or not, I actually had a dream last night that I found one of these. I have the Smurfs game, but none of the tapes - or the tape player. If anyone knows how to provide this stuff in a repro or something so I can play it on my 2600, please let me know.
user42
As far as I understand, there is no controller. The Kidvid is that tape recorder. That's what I think also. So why is it listed on the controller list page?... http://www.atariage.com/controller_list.html?SystemID=2600 Mabey someone saw the Gemini controller in this... ...and thought it was a special controller...(?) Zwackery
Officially the device is a KID VID Voice Module. Probably when the site was being built it just got lumped in with the controllers. I'd probably put it, and the Supercharger, into the hardware category.
ninermaniac
The tape player is the controller of the game. The game won't even work without the module/controller. It's not what you would notice as a traditional type of controller but their are others referred to as controllers but don't look like one. Mine is just fine. Also shouldn't the control type (on the game pages above) be Joystick, not "Kid Vid Controller". Or at the very least , put "Kid Vid Voice Module" to avoid the confusion of looking for a controller that does not exist....

And/or the game is the controller of the tape player as it starts and stops the machine using one of the I/O lines in the controller port. You just gotta fool around with the switches to use the game without the tape deck. I'll see if I can find the instructions on how to trigger each of the 3 games for you and then post them. They are posted here at atariage somewhere also, maybe in the hardware section (??).

Thanks for mentioning! Edited January 9, 2009 by Rom Hunter

user42
This works for me on Stella, but how can this be done on Z26? With Z26 you can use the .wav to play the game with audio....why would you even want to play without?
keithbk
I was just re-reading this old thread, then found this YouTube video which goes into a good amount of detail on the Kid Vid products and thought I would share it with everyone:
