Encounter on Atari 2600

Recommended Posts

hello everybody,

i played many years ago the game "encounter" on the atari 800 xl. is the same game also available on 2600?

because i think, that many games on the 800 xl was originally created for the 2600. for example frogger or moon patrol.

i would be lucky if "encounter" is also available on the 2600. i love this game!

greetinx,

stefan

thanks for posting, but that's not the right game.

the "encounter" i mean is the following: you control a tank. you are on a battlefield and there are flying things, your enemies. you have at your screen also an radar, where you can see the position of your enemies. after killing all of your enemies there is a black door. by entering the door you will be beamed in the next level. the beaming looks like the "flying windows" screensaver at microsoft windows ;-)

(sorry for my bad english)

AFAIK there's only two 3D tank games available on the VCS: Robot Tank & Battlezone

Manuel

Encounter is available from Holme's, so you can easily do the screenshots on your own, using an 8-Bit emulator like atari800 :)

Encounter was programmed by Paul Woakes, who went on to create Mercenary.

It's an excellent conversion of arcade Battlezone to a raster format. Smooth movement and good 3-D effect. As a bonus, it has many more different kinds of enemies.

My favorite element from that game is the gateway between levels. From the outside, it appears as a black box; inside, it's endless infinity. Turning around, you see a window onto the world you just left. 8)
