Commodore 64 and C64C; difference in power supply.

Recommended Posts

'morning, folks.

I have recently read that the main line voltage on the C64C motherboard was dropped to 9V from the previous higher 12V used on the classic Commodore 64.

I then wonder if the two models can share their power supply "brick". The aesthetics are similar if not identical, but the drop of required voltage makes me wonder. Anyone knows?

This is the first I've heard of it, and in all likelihood, I've often used the "wrong" power supply for a C64C... for whatever that's worth.

Keep in mind that no electronic device can ever rely on a perfectly level voltage from a wall socket, so they usually (always?) have power supplies that exceed their required voltages, and then use internal circuitry to step-down the voltage to the system's needs.

If you happen to have the correct power supply, then use it... but I'd say you're probably safe to use whatever power supply will fit.
