Silverfleet #1 Posted January 16, 2009 And everything is 1/2 off or more, including games! Around here, there are 2 of them shutting down, and I've pillaged them for some good deals on games. All the Gamecube, regular Xbox, and GBA games at one place were 75% off. Their prices used to be outrageous for a lot of stuff, but I scored a ton of good deals. Just wanted to give everyone a heads-up!
ninjarabbit #2 Posted January 16, 2009 Not surprised, brick-and-mortar entertainment stores in mall are a dying breed.
Atariboy #3 Posted January 16, 2009 (edited) Not to mention FYE is overpriced. They're always MSRP or higher, even though you can go across the street to Wal-Mart or online to Amazon, and get the same things for much cheaper. Their DVD selection is good though so I still go in occasionally to get things, even though I know I'm paying a ton for the convenience of getting something immediately over ordering online. So I hope mine doesn't close. I don't buy CD's, only own a couple. But out of curiousity, is there CD selection just as overpriced as their DVD's? yuppicide #4 Posted January 16, 2009 (edited) FYE SUCKS! I ordered a CD there once because I can't find it anywhere (well online I suppose I can) but anyway they never got it in stock. FYE is overpriced, so is Best Buy, Circuit City, and just about every major chain. I only shop independent owned CD stores.. a few good ones in NJ such as Vintage Vinyl and Princeton Record Exchange, etc. 99% of the time they're cheaper and carry more. Forgot to say, though, still a good heads up. Thanks. Edited January 16, 2009 by yuppicide
KrazyKaiju #5 Posted January 16, 2009 I don't buy CD's, only own a couple. But out of curiousity, is there CD selection just as overpriced as their DVD's? Last time I looked they were selling new releases for $14.99 and up. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a CD there for less than $14.99, most of the back-catalog stuff goes for more than $20. Royalshin #6 Posted January 16, 2009 (edited) I have beeen to one of them and to be honest they have barely nothing in Videogames. It is the same cheap video store setup along with coconuts they could all go sniff there buttz for all I care. Like somebody said they are over priced. On that note there is no such thing as video stores since DVD's came along F.Y.E. get it No more video stores.....All of them is shutting down all over the place. FYE I practically forgot they even exsist. Like the last week of Christmas the entire downtown area that would have herds of big mammas and hens was like a barren wastland. No Christmas sale, nothing whatsoever. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is rolling around also. I wonder if there is going to be a sale of some sort FYE bye bye FYE Edited January 16, 2009 by Royalshin

Albert #11 Posted January 19, 2009 I can't remember the last time I bought a movie or music CD from a mall store, and I doubt I've ever spent a penny at a Fye's. As has already been stated here, mall stores are overpriced and often lack the selection you'll find elsewhere (especially online). To say nothing of having to drive to the mall and parking quite far from the store you want to visit. I guess for some people, walking around the mall may be their only form of exercise. ..Al
shadow460 #12 Posted January 20, 2009 (edited) Nah, walking around the mall is an experience. It's not really about going to get something specific. It's all about impulse buying. Still, there's nothing quite like a leisurely stroll indoors and a stop at Sbarro or Orange Julius for supper and a drink. I miss going to a brick and mortar mall. I hate the outdoor things they've got today. It's awesome to have an open top mall that you can still walk to everything in, but these square mile shopping centers they have with parking places for every store are just the epitome of American laziness. That just encourages people to leave one store, drive their car 50 feet, and walk into another one. I'm not against walking store to store outside, but if I wanna go from, say, Lowe's to Vintage Stock, that's a good 10 to 15 minute walk. If they were in the mall I could walk it in three minutes (never mind how many folks I push out of the way ) There's no point in that 15 minute walk since 90% of it is through parking lots. But who ever heard of having to get into your car to go between Sam Goody, Nordstrom, and Sbarro? Get real. Today's shopping generation is just plain lazy and it shows. Silverfleet #13 Posted January 21, 2009 I agree with the sentiments of all of you that say that FYE sucks, but I did score some good deals there. Here's a few of the deals I got: -Clubhouse Games for the DS (the original one, not the remake) $10 -Viewtiful Joe 2, GC, $2 -Viewtiful Joe, PS2, $4 -Baten Kaitos Origins, GC, $2.50 -WarioWare Twisted, GBA, $10 -Assassin's Creed for Xbox 360, $11 -Need For Speed Pro Street, Xbox 360, $8 -Flipnic Pinball, PS2, $2.50 -Scurge:Hive (essentially a cheap 3/4 view Metroid clone) DS, $2 -Star Trek Encounters, PS2, $2.50 I know some of those game probably suck, but for the price I just couldn't say no! And they had many more too, especially Xbox and PS2 games. Many of the last gen stuff was on clearance anyway, so the prices were not too bad to begin with. I traditionally do pretty well there when stuff goes on clearance there, and I've gotten some rare stuff there when this happens. A few years back I picked up one of those huge PS1 Dual Analog flight stick controllers for $2.99, brand new in the box. That thing was fun to mess around with. I haven't seen another one since! They were always the highest priced chain around here for music too, with most CD's going for around $17-18! They were really killing themselves with that. After the advent of the MP3 and Itunes, it really was only a matter of time.

Gotta agree I dog the whole mall thing, but I hung out at the mall in the 80's so it's probably nostalgia. If you could get some cheap game retailers and Arcades back I would go even more! +atari2600land #15 Posted January 28, 2009 My FYE has no video games whatsoever, but they do have hideous loud hip-hop music emanating from the speakers. When we walked out, I remarked to my mom, "You and me are the only people who don't like hip-hop for some reason." I should have bought that Yoshi figurine, but I went back and it wasn't there. shadow460 #17 Posted January 29, 2009 Yeah, like how in the world are they gonna sell CDs to someone who like country or techno when they've got some dude spittin' something unrepeatable all around their little pad?
godslabrat #18 Posted January 31, 2009 Yeah, like how in the world are they gonna sell CDs to someone who like country or techno when they've got some dude spittin' something unrepeatable all around their little pad? You misunderstand. No one in the world likes country or techno. For that matter, rock is dead, as are vocals and jazz. The only musical genre that anyone likes is hip-hop, and if you want variety, you can listen to rap too. That's what music is, don't know know anything!?? If you don't like hip hop, clearly there's something wrong with you, and no one cares what you think. ... or at least, that's what the music industry has made pretty clear in the past 10 years.
