We Cheer

Recommended Posts

(Why the hell is Gabriel posting about this title?)

I must ask about this game. I discovered it while browsing Amazon and had a typical WTF type of moment. My rubbernecking at the trainwreck got the better of me. I had to know more. So, I visited YouTube.

My first thought while watching the gameplay video was, "Why did Namco do this isntead of localizing [email protected]?"

My second thought was, "This is strangely hypnotic." (It didn't hurt the song being used was Eye of the Tiger, one of my all time favorites.)

Also, it seems to have launched at $30 and increased in price since then to $50. The pro reviews were extremely negative, but the fan reviews were extremely positive. The extent of it is very odd, even for the Wii.

So, what's up with this game? My morbid curiousity has become genuine interest (jebus help me).

Obviously my next purchase will be Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey.

Looks like a Cheer Leading game for little girls?

I think maybe you just played so much Chromehounds you blew a brain gasket. :P

P.S. : You can get used copies on Amazon for $23. You know you want this game.

I know a guy who calls himself Gel... he's convinced that We Cheer is the best game ever. I'm not entirely convinced of that, as the gameplay seems rather complicated, but it couldn't be any worse than Sega's swing-and-a-miss conversion of Samba de Amigo.

That is very possible. I was really more in the mood for Culdcept or Soul Calibur last night, but I was the only one.

Wow I knew this was coming, but I hadn't heard it was a bomb. How could they screw that up? Samba de Amigo seems like a natural on the Wii.

My daughter, who is a cheerleader, played it on a friends DS and told me NOT to buy it for the Wii(or anything else)..She said it had too much drama involved. (that coming from a cheerleader..)

I took one for the team and bought it. I also turned in my penis because I obviously had no right to it anymore.

I'm not in shape. I don't have rhythm. So, for me, this game is brutal in difficulty. Even still, ignore the reviews saying the game is impossible. It does have a learning curve akin to throwing the player to the wolves, but a little practice goes a long way.

The 1UP review (the most singularly negative review) is wrong in every conceivable way, as in factually incorrect and blatantly mischaracterizing. I think the reviewer in question only attempted to play the game with a single Wiimote, because it's the only way some of her comments make any sense. If she wasn't being hyperbolic in her statement about how no one in the 1UP offices could complete the easiest song, then it's scary how inept they are.

Probably the most accurate review I read was one which summed up the game as "so casual it's hardcore." Altogether, the positive skewed reviews are the ones I feel are more accurate about the game. As with all other rhythm games, it depends on how much you like the tracklist. I happen to like bubblegum pop, so I'm good with it.

I played for about 2 hours. I spent the first 30 minutes failing. Then I passed the first song and things seemed easier for me. My timing got better. In about 2 hours I cleared about half a dozen songs or so. This unlocked more stages and more songs, including Eye of the Tiger (which was the whole reason for me giving the game a chance). At the end of it all, my arms ached, but during the game I was getting into things and generally having a good time even when I was failing.

My suggestion for anyone else who may be secretly interested in this game is to do a google search to find the tracklist. Then visit YouTube and search for the gameplay videos. What you see is what you get. If you can deal with the kawaii overload, the trackmix, and the idea of actually doing those motions indicated with your arms, then you might find the game pretty neat. I wouldn't pay the $50 and $60 it's going for from some stores. I wouldn't even pay the $40 most online retailers are charging. I paid $30, and I'm fine with that. I think it's worth around $25, give or take $5.

Just turn your masculinity in at the counter. Also realize you will never live it down if any of your friends see it on your gaming shelf.

(Yes, that's two positive posts about Wii games from Gabriel in one week. The world is obviously about to end.)
