Godzilla #1 Posted January 19, 2009 I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but is there somewhere out there that tells you which platform has the best version of a game? With the proliferation of old games being ported to the wii and virtual console titles and multi-platform new titles it can be pretty confusing. It used to be a lot easier Usually it was the dreamcast version, then the xbox version But now, I feel like I need some kind of tracking database if I want to get a game to make sure I get the best version Lame Informer magazine sometimes has a little 'which system has the edge' box out, but not always... Royalshin #2 Posted January 20, 2009 The collector will just go for the earliest version that applies to them. However the consumer would just wait it out but then there might be a desperate recall

A good rule of thumb that admittedly is not always correct: Go with the platform it was originally made on. For example if a game was designed on the Amiga it is likely be best on that platform even if there is a version for every other 16 bit computer/console. This doesn't help when a game comes out at the same time for PS3/XBOX 360, but it works sometimes with newer releases, and almost always works on older systems (with some exceptions). shadow460 #4 Posted January 20, 2009 IMO, the original is best.
cimerians #5 Posted January 20, 2009 Thats a good rule. On the newer systems its very hard. Sometimes it holds true, for example I prefer the original PS2 version of Okami than the Wii remake.
Reaperman #6 Posted January 20, 2009 (edited) it would be nice to have a site that charts differences between ports of games. wow, would that take some time though. I usually like the most primative system that will play the game--provided not too much is cut out. It's kind of a weird thing with me, I suppose. Godzilla #7 Posted January 20, 2009 well, then, you must be loving that the ps2 is still getting weak-sauce watered-down versions of a lot of the bigger titles.

Ha I have Tomb Raider Legend on the 360 and then I bought a discounted PS2 Legend and it turned out to be very very good. I was very surprised because the controls were a whole lot better but the graphics were not as crisp and great like the 360's. But I have to agree a lot of watered down versions of other games are out there.
