I'm Interested On Purchasing Some Atari Homebrew Games!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I'm interested on purchasing some Atari homebrew games for the Atari 2600. I joined Atariage in mid-2007 and didn't know much about them. There still all new to me. I unfortunately never purchased a homebrew game before either. I purchased hacks & reproduction cartridges, but that's about it from an Atari system (or any classic consoles).

Is there any in particular that you fellas like to suggest for me that I should consider purchasing.

Any recommendations would be useful. Thanks.

Nathan has produced a great set of homebrew reviews that cover most of the 2600 titles available in the AA store. My own favourites are: Oystron, Thrus+, LadyBug, Strat-O-Gems, Medieval Mayhem, Crazy Balloon, and Go Fish!

There are TONS of homebrew recommendation threads all over the place here. Here's one in progress in the 2600 forum:

http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=137825

Also most homebrews in the store have reviews too so you can read those to help you decide. Or use the search engine here and find one of the other dozen or so "homebrew recommendation" threads.

P.S. Toyshop Trouble and Thrust.

Just download a 2600 emulator and try out the homebrew games yourself. The ROMs for most of the homebrews in the AA-Store are available.

My favorites are Medieval Mayhem, Toyshop Trouble and Lady Bug.

There's also a post running in the 2600 forum today titled "opinions on some 2600 homebrews" with a lot of suggestions and input. It may help.

I second these games among others! Bean also loves them. But we all know my heart and hers are with 7800 homebrew games. ;)

I'm always up for a homebew recommendations thread! :D

Shooters:

Thrust+

Oystron

Colony 7

Seawolf

Platformers:

Fall Down

Gingerbread Man

Paddle:

Medieval Mayhem

SCSIcide

Other:

Lady Bug

Toyshop Trouble

Star Fire

But, really, you'd have a hard time going wrong with any of the ones for sale in the AA store.

And, well, I'm partial to Reindeer Rescue and Squish 'Em, but I am a bit biased with regards to those guys.
