Another Asteroids Question - need help

Recommended Posts

Hello, my asteroids has faint lines running to the asteroids, some diagonal and some horizontal and vertical. Also, in the middle of the screen (vertically), it stretches the ship and asteriods as they cross this area. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! P.S. there is a burn dot in the middle (I understand this pretty much permanent) and I believe this is the original monitor.

Sounds like you screen control on the flyback is turned up too high. I would suggest downloading the manual from the web and finding the section on screen adjustments. Then find the knob on the flyback section that says screen and turn it down. Should solve the problem.

The dot in the center could indicated at some point (or maybe now) the "spot killer" circuit on the monitor chassis was/is not working. It is not repairable (the dot, that is). With a little bit of research so you know what is what, you could pull the input cable off of the pcb and see if a red light comes on the back of the monitor (the spot killer) or if you just have a bright dot in the center of your screen. If you have a red light on the back, the damage is from an earlier time and doesn't need anything. If there is a single dot in the middle of your screen, you'll want to fix your spot killer circuit.

Hope that at least starts you off.
