A Mexican clone controller came in today...

Recommended Posts

It was nearly perfect. I'll take pics tomorrow, but the chassis was nearly perfect, even said Atari on the db9 plug! The only difference that was noticable was the circuitboard. It didn't have the three-legged dome switches, but round with one flat side, and the screws holding it together had a more aquared off head (just less rounded really). I'll show pics tomorrow, it's at the shop.

Got pics up at picasa, here's a link there:

Picasa Link

and here they are posted here. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Atari (real) one is a CX-40 and not a CX-10, right??

I do not believe that is a clone, I have personally seen 20+ circuit board revisions and if I was bored I would open a few of the 50+ sticks I have in the garage and I guarantee you I would find that PCB in one of them. ;)

I thought that Atari used only the three legged dome switches, but I stand corrected! The Mexican one has lived a rough life, the center post under the joystick is cracked nearly off, dome switches are really worn out and the cable end looks like it's been dragged behind a car.

It also did not pass the LED tester test. Has a problem with left and the button. Thanks for the info!

It is actually an original Atari VCS controller, not sure if its CX-10 or CX-40, but it's a legit model for the mexican market.

I'm pretty sure it is original. I'm damn pretty sure.

The circuit board is exactly the same I had in my controllers - once - , as much as I remember... when they got broken after 1 year of use, then my dad brought me a 2600 Jr. from US.

I'm pretty sure this one is a doozy, a CX-40 lookalike with microswitches and non-standard parts. The same friend that gave me the first one in this thread has this one, and it's been the best stick he has ever had.

Things to mention: it is very clicky, like a Wico, and very unlike other CX-40 stick. The cord coming off it is very small in diameter, does not say Atari on the molded end. The white plastic stick inside the sheath is not there, but there is a black one that does not want to come out at all from the rubber boot.

Please see pics and tell me if you have seen one of these, and if it's common or rare.

That's CX-10 innards. And there aren't any microswitches. Just domes underneath with the plastic insert and springs on top.

i THINK ATARI JUST HAD THOSE MADE IN mexico . I remember that as a kid I thought those were cool does the button have a springy feel to it cause those are cool.

I still have the two slick sticks i got off ebay one has a cracked knob but some tape rammed in fixed it and the other one i dont use
