EOB is not up for preorders and is unlikely to be anytime soon. Wyvern Tales is not yet but will be soon. Thread here:

Or the code wasn't completed in his version of the prototype...

The EOTB is a bit tedious to play even with a working save. It is one of the games where you desperately try to plot your world on paper while you play it. And even then there are parts that change during the play.

As a piece of historyit is worth to get it. I do have the game with the working save. But I never had the time to finish EOTB.

 

For playability I prefer Wyvern Tales. I finished that one twice.

In your version can you save at anytime or only when you complete a level?

The proto that has a KM28C64 onboard can save at anytime.  That release is what this thread is based on.
