Atari Stunt Cycle question....

Recommended Posts

OK, Quick question on Atari Stunt Cycle, specifically on the decals on the screen.

According to the manual, the two decals at the top of the screen say "Extended Play" on the left and "Return Handle Throttle to Idle" on the right. This is right above the "Player One" and "Player Two" decals respectably.

Now the problem is, Every picture I see on the net, CLEARLY shows "Game Over" on the right instead of return handle....

Which one is correct??

Also, the decal of the sign that is stuck in the ground.... Is there any writing on it? Does it say "start" or anything, or is it just a square with a spike at the bottom? Can someone that has the game please supply me with better pictures than what appear on the net?

I am working on a Stunt Cycle simulator. Since it can not be emulated, as it has no CPU, simulating is as close as we can come. Here is the progress so far....

Notice that the decals are just a tad lighter than the gray in the screen to make it look like a decal.

Thanks,

Scotty

Could have been operator selectable with a dip switch or jumper on the board. That way you would put the corresponding sticker on the screen based on what you wanted the game to do. Few operators would have wanted to give away free games, so I would image they would have it set to a harder level, so you can't easily get extended time. Those stickers would have been long ago disposed of. Could also have been an early print run on the book/game so the two don't correspond. Seen that before. Remember Atari was a fairly poor little company back in the day. Reprinting was probably expensive.

Night Driver has a similar quandry about on screen stickers. I have seen an Atari logo highlighted in MAME (I know this is a TTL game, no processor, etc) but have owned 2 cockpit versions and never seen the white block in the lower right on either of my rom sets. Not sure how/why the book shows it that way.

Good luck, I don't think anyone will pick apart your em. Very cool project. Now to get an old joystick, hack it open and use the potentiameter and an old dirt motorcross bike handle....:)
