Keatah #1 Posted February 9, 2009 Does anybody remember what their favorite food was when playing 2600 games in the late 70's? For me it was Pepsi soda pop and Swanson's TV dinners. The chicken in the aluminum foil trays.. And they came with these impossibly tiny fries in so much grease you could sick it through a straw! Or the macaroni from Stoufers. Or the Ore-Ida tator tots (had those while in the trailer park!) Maybe the silver-dollar round-shaped french fried potatoes. Or... Oh yeh, Tyson's breast patties. Now those went good with BattleStar Galactica or the Six-Million-Dollar-Man. Yeah babycakes!! Of course Twinkies and Fudgesicles too. Along with the requisite McDonald's junk. My favorite, Bar'B'Que potato chips with Philadelphia cream cheese, a delicacy!

hbomb #3 Posted February 9, 2009 Noodles with butter was a favorite in the double wide. You could wipe your hands on the paneling wall and never see it. Any left overs ended up in the Star Wars sheets on the single mattress bed. Washing everything down with a Chek Cola from Winn Dixie and brief spanktravision interludes with Thundarr the Barbarian. Wow..those were the days.
Crazy Climber #4 Posted February 9, 2009 I seem to remember a few things that are not around anymore (more early 80's for me, born in 77) Micro Magic - Cheeseburgers, Fries, shakes (man I miss these, they would probably taste like crap now compared to whats out there - lol) Pizzaria chips (I think they had several flavors) Shasta soda
AtariLeaf #5 Posted February 9, 2009 We didn't eat while playing games. Parents didn't want a $300 investment ruined by sticky fingers.

IHATETHEBEARS #8 Posted February 9, 2009 No eating. There was nothing worse than picking up a greasy joystick after someone had been eating potato chips.

ATARIPITBULL #11 Posted February 9, 2009 The only time I would eat was after I'd get killed in what ever game I was playing at the time and I think most of the time it was junk food like Cupcakes, twinkes and of course a 8 pack of the old glass bottled Coca-Cola. 1982VideoGames #14 Posted February 9, 2009 My sister and I used to prepare a plate full of Cheerios with a little cream cheese in the center when playing 2600 games. Sometimes Pringle's potato chips dipped in sour cream. I seem to associate playing Demon Attack in the evenings with my father (before watching 'The Voyager's' tv show on Sunday nights) with a bowl of microwaved Grape Nuts with milk and then adding some maple syrup - yum! +save2600 #16 Posted February 9, 2009 (edited) NEVER ate while playing games. Pretty nasty actually. And you wonder why you find dead spiders and cockroaches in old game systems and computers? lol I remember I had a friend that did not have the best hygienic standards and when I'd come over to play his Intellivision, I'd literally have to wipe them off before playing. Used to bring over those little alcohol pads in fact. lol Cereal during the Saturday morning cartoons was cool (especially the Pac-Man cartoon). Peanut butter Cap'n Crunch or Donkey Kong cereal as I recall :-) Edited February 9, 2009 by save2600
cimerians #17 Posted February 9, 2009 Donkey Kong cereal! I remember that. I used to like the Pitfall Harry and Dragons lair cartoons.... Anyone ever lend a friend a cartridge and it came back to you covered in chocolate and cookie crumbs?

shadow460 #21 Posted February 9, 2009 Oddly enough, I only remember one time of eating while playing 2600. I am sure I ate and played at the same time a LOT, though. That one time, though, was my very first time of playing London Blitz. It was Saturday, Dad was asleep (he worked the night before), and no one else was around the house. I had this jumbo size Wild Cherry sucker that I think I got from a school carnival, well, anyway it had been sitting in my room wrapped up for weeks and it was high time the thing was eaten. I tore the wrapper off, started eating, and dug into the cases of 2600 games. I had never even known we had any Avalon Hill games. London Blitz looked so different from the rest that I had to try it out. I read through the booklet and then began to play. I actually enjoyed the game, but the sucker lasted longer than I did. This was my first experience with wild cherry flavored candy also. The wrapper on that sucker clearly stated what it was. To this day, I associate Wild Cherry hard candy and London Blitz. When I think of one, I automatically think of the other. When I eat the candy, those bombs are ticking away in my mind, and when I think of the game, my mouth begins to water and I can taste wild cherry flavoring. Now I gotta go find me some Wild Cherry candy...anyone got any Jolly Ranchers?
cvga #22 Posted February 10, 2009 I willingly gave up food to save money for more games! I do remember enjoying a Pepsi during some gaming sessions though.
lushgirl_80 #23 Posted February 10, 2009 early to mid 80's for me when my family had the 5200 I remember my sister and I eating alot of butter cookies while playing Galaxian. Somehow the 5200 standard controllers could'nt take the grease from the butter and they broke I remember the late 80's during the 8-bit NES days we'd always order pizza on a Friday night,so I remember eating alot of pizza while playing Super mario Bros. lol... that and alot of popsicles.....somehow the NES controllers were more durable... but I never really thought of eating while playing video games actually lol. I do remember Nintendo Cereal and the Mario cereal I liked but the Zelda one always gave me a headache. I do remember Pacman cereal tasting alot like Lucky Charms and Donkey Kong cereal was just basically Cap'n Crunch.

tisaperfectdayelise #25 Posted February 10, 2009 Wow, the nostalgia factor is overwhelming, and this is SUCH a fun read! We weren't allowed to eat in the family room, and, when it wasn't a meal time, my mom would yell, "KITCHEN'S CLOSSEED!" from upstairs, if she heard us in the kitchen. I do remember my sister sneaking boxes of Cheerios and Chrispix for us, and hiding the boxes under the couch, while we'd play our trusty 2600..... ...there was also the time that she was having an ice cream sandwich, while we were facing off on 2600 Donkey Kong. Mom was coming down the steps, and sis threw the sandwich under the couch.... ...she forgot about it until six months later... Oh, this would have been late 80s for me, as I'm just a spring chicken...
