hex65000 #1 Posted February 23, 2009 If you still have the desire to fill out your PS2 game collection, Amazon is doing lightning deals on PS2 games today. I snagged a copy of Lego Batman for $15 and Persona 4 is at $26. Get it while it's still there and you don't have to pay for a reseller markup. > Hex. Tempest #3 Posted February 23, 2009 Can someone explain these Persona games to me? They seem to generate a lot of buzz, but I've never heard of them before. Tempest
Reaperman #4 Posted February 23, 2009 (edited) Can someone explain these Persona games to me? They seem to generate a lot of buzz, but I've never heard of them before. Tempest well I've only played persona 3, but let me sum it up with: We're japanese high schoolers in a club because of our special ability to see the extra hour that happens at midnight. During this hour, all other people are cocooned in coffins, and horrible monsters roam around everywhere. While all this is happening, we go to a mystery tower and do nothing but level grind with the occasional david lynch-esque cutscene. that pretty well sums it up. though there was something about making oneself popular at school and joining other clubs to give special powers while level grinding. That was just annoying. oh and there was also this way to get 'super powers' by shooting yourself in the head with this gun-thing you carry. It's artsy and fun to watch--for about the first 3 times... yeah, it doesn't make any sense--but just you try explaining an episode of twin peaks to somebody. I didn't get very far...but p4 is supposed to be better (like I'm going to open it) Edited February 23, 2009 by Reaperman
Tempest #5 Posted February 23, 2009 Sounds wacky. I think I'll stick to Star Ocean for my next RPG fix though. Tempest
hex65000 #6 Posted February 23, 2009 I didn't get very far...but p4 is supposed to be better (like I'm going to open it) I think that the shock factor is one of the primary elements of the S.M.Tensi series. For example, I've been playing Digital Devil Saga 1. The premise is odd in itself, but when they essentially say, to survive and become more powerful you have to eat your enemies. They use the term 'devour' for some odd reason which I still translate in my mind as "eat with great hunger". It's freaking cannibalism. The shenanigans continue in D.D.Saga 2 , except a society of people who can become monsters are hunting and eating regular people. No matter how you slice it, that's some messed up subject matter. Of course, I've gotta ask, why bother picking the game up if you aren't planning on playing it? I mean I have a list in my queue right now a mile long. I wanna attack Persona 3:FES or Nocturne after I finish DDS2 -- provided I'm not totally burned out on the grinding aspect of this type of game. My time logged in DDS1 is 130 hours (!!) I haven't done a second playthrough nor have I gone back and totally filled out the skill tree for the sake of batter stats in DDS2. That's a LOT of time and is only rivaled by my time logged on Lunar Legends which is a paltry 70 hours. What does it all mean? Yeah, I still have P3:FES (fez?) and P4 still in shrinkwrap because I'm still playing other stuff. Arkanoid is gonna get booted from my DS soon enough anyway for Retro-game challenge. So many games, not enough time to properly savor them... This makes me really sad. Hex. [ You see that last sentence? I picked that up somewhere, and I wish I could make it stop! Stop that dammit! ]
Reaperman #7 Posted February 27, 2009 (edited) Of course, I've gotta ask, why bother picking the game up if you aren't planning on playing it? because I'm the 'NIB freak' I promised myself I'd never become. If I do play it (and it's likely given the reviews) I can just grab a copy from the internet, throw it on the hard drive, where it's more usable anyway, and have a minty fresh copy of probably the last great ps2 RPG stowed away in the closet. I guess the question should be 'why bother buying them at all?', but that's an issue of right and wrong, as well as supporting good games. I see only minor ethical/legal snags with my current setup. I must say, I'm liking the youtube video reviews I've been seeing. (here's , and another) Edited February 27, 2009 by Reaperman
