Music on Empire Strikes Back?

I have just re-read racing the Beam and in the ESB chapter in states that the game plays the star wars theme at the start and also when you get the invunerability thing after lasting 2 minutes. now i hadn't played this game for years so pulled out the cart and stuck it in to reaquaint myself with what I remember as a pretty fun game. But where is the music? I have the PAL version so do you get the music in the NTSC version and for some reason it was chopped out of the PAL release, 'cus I'm not getting jack!

I believe it was left out of the PAL version for some reason. Probably a programming error or maybe they used an older version of the game when they did the PAL port?

Thanks Tempest, another shoddy PAL conversion just like Battlezone. Anyone know of any other titles that were stunted like this in PAL?

Those are the two that come to mind when I think of screwy PAL conversions. I'm sure there are others though.

Yep, it's a pity they left out the music in the PAL version. I was surprised when i heard it the first time i played the NTSC version.

IIRC there's also no opening music in the PAL version of RS Soccer.

I bought that game when it was released and I clearly remembered the music when you get invulnerable...

so is it my memory playing tricks?

Converting music from [email protected] to [email protected] is difficult, because sound frequencies are not the same, so the music is off / shifted, and it sounds bad. When the music is original (ie: not a "real world music" converted to "vcs music), it's not a problem (nobody will really notice the difference). When the music is a converted music, people will hear the difference (the famous song sounds screwed).

So, perhaps it was the problem here (the StarWars theme was too butchered in PAL, so they removed it).
