The Awesome Camerica Freedom Stick

Recommended Posts

I picked up two of these in a lot some time ago and finally got myself out to buy some batteries (they take 4 AA) and hook them up. First thing I tried was plugging them into my heavy 6er. Could not figure out why it had two cords until I saw that there was a player 1/2 select switch on the stick. Sweet! So I plugged in the receiver using the 8-pin connector (you can use those or the NES version) and fired up some Fall Down and it works great. I actually really like the feel of this stick. Stashed it under the couch so my wife can't find it. Next stop, the NES. Works great. I have had TERRIBLE luck with wireless sticks in the past, but these ones seem to work without interference!

If you see one of these, pick it up. I am so happy I bought a lot with a couple of these in it!

I had one of those as a kid. Honestly, I think it's poorly built.

It broke when I threw it on the carpet. Yeah that was abusive, but a decent joystick like the NES Advantage wouldn't have been affected.

It also has a hole in the bottom for no apparent reason, covered up by a sticker. If somebody pokes their finger in there you get a hole in the middle of the joystick. That's just an aesthetic thing but it bugged me.

But it is nice for the compatibility with Atari, NES, and SMS. I used it a lot on the 7800 because I didn't like the Prolines.

And if you find one in good condition, a mature adult can probably take good care of it. :)
