Recommended Posts

If memory serves me right left on 7800 difficulty switches would be Difficulty B on 2600 games right? :P

(A)dvanced

(B)eginner

Now you'll never forget. :)

(Don't know why they didn't bother with the labels on the 7800, though)

So glad to find this information. Left is (B)eginner and Right is (A)dvanced.

There's got to be a good memory trick to remember that... OR I could just print out a label and stick it on my 7800.

Maybe "When you get it right, you're (A)dvanced." would work as a memory thing.

Why didn't they label them on the 7800?

Ha, nice to see an old thread of mine resurrected. That is a good question though as if many 7800 games use them. I really need to get a copy of Tower Topper.

Ok, what 7800 games uses the A/B switches?

I know Tower Topper does.

Ikari Warriors, Super Skateboardin' and Scrapyard Dog (turn on/off background music)

Jr. Pac-Man (homebrew - starting lives and Fast Mode)

Failsafe (homebrew - starting lives and time to guess Failsafe Code)

Xevious (1 or 2-button function to fire)

Sirius (prototype - difficulty Easy or Hard)

Plutos (prototype - 1 or 2 players)

Motor Psycho (show score / response control parameters)

Jr. Pac-Man ROM (post #2 of 7800 HSC Season 4 Game 17):

Whenever I forget, I put in Space Invaders or Vid Olympics because you can adjust the ship size or paddle length without actually starting to play. Helps on the Flashback too actually where it is sometimes hard to tell if the diff switch is depressed.

F14 Tomcat and F18 Hornet both use the difficulty switches..F14 raise and lower the landing gear and arresting hook and F18 for raising and lowering the landing gear and bomb drop

Flipping one of the switches (left I think) will kill music on beef drop. It has to be in the opposite position it was in when the game was powered up. I think I used it for Easter eggs in b*nQ

Yes, Video Olympics is my go-to cart for this exact test.

Not wonky.

It's a screen selection mode, once it cycles thru to the screen you want you can put the switch back and start on that tower .... sort of an easter egg/"secret cheat".
