Anybody ever bought anything from these guys?

Recommended Posts

I am looking to buy a couple of the CX78 controllers (NES style gamepad), and 4jays.net has new ones for $20. Has anybody ever got anything from this site? Are they reputable?

I've also looked at Best Electronics, but I believe their's are refurbished. Correct me if I am wrong on that. Plus I am not really thrilled about sending credit card information over a plain text e-mail.

Any other alternatives about where I could get a couple new 7800 gamepads for a decent price would be appreciated as well.

Thanks.

Here's the above link since it's a little messed up in Ian Primus's post:

I'd get a set of those NES controller conversions if I hadn't just dropped too much $ on some other stuff this week. They look incredible (well, in the mockup they do, I'm sure the real thing will look even better).

And yes, 4jays is okay. I ordered a few times from them, you don't have anything to worry about.

Thanks.

I'm sure that the NES conversions will be nice, but these are a bit cheaper, plus I would rather use the authentic thing. Maybe I'll get one if the CX78s disappoint.

I bought an Intellivision and some carts from 4Jays several years ago. Everything was beat up pretty bad, but it all worked.

CX78 joypads from best electronics are all brand new. The guy bought out atari in the 90's and has thousands of them new old stock. You can't beat $15 each for atari brand joypads.

The NES pads just work better. Don't get me wrong the 78's are a vast improovment, but the nes is just not duplicated for d-pad control. If you don't do two player much, I'd suggest getting one of each and doing a side by side... then when you do play 2 player, you can grab the nes pad and kick their butt. :D

I prefer my PS1 7800 controller over the NES ones I've made

BTW 4jays seems to be sold out of CX78's

Must have bought the last two earlier this afternoon. At least I hope that is the case, because the system let me check out.

i have to agree with the others here, go with the nes pad , the 78 are indeed much much better than a proline , and i understand wanting to use original equipment. however i have one of each, and honestly the nes pads are waayyy better. and ax's do look like they are gonna be sharp, ,if i hadnt already made my own i would be all over them!

I'm sure Best Electronics has some if you can't find them elsewhere.

Best has a minimum order requirement now. I just wanted one 78 and they wouldn't sell it to me.

They've always had one. I think for credit cards it's like $20. It looks like the CX78s are $17, so add one of those Atari pins (you know you want one) for $3 and you've hit the minimum.

My 4Jays order shipped yesterday.

Anybody else think that Best Electronics needs to update their site? I don't know if they are just trying to keep with the whole retro thing or what, but their site and ordering process is straight out of a site from 1995.

Seriously, have they ever heard of osCommerce or maybe a Yahoo store, anything really would be more organized than that mess of static HTML they have now.

For me,in my experience,4jays is %100 reputable.Excellent service.I've bought several items from them like the impossible to find INTV 2 power supply. And they ship LIGHTNING FAST.With all the dead beat sellers out there,it's fantastic to see great sellers like 4jays.

No, it's fine the way it is....it serves its purpose. Anything more is just needless embellishment.

Regarding Best: I'd be a lot more aware of what they have if they had a much better, easier to navigate website. They are very old-school in that regard I guess. I know what they have that I want though, so when I order, I'll just call. I just wonder what else they have that I'd like to get that isn't on their website... stuff that I wouldn't know to ask for because I wouldn't need it until I saw it. They're not at all browse friendly.

4Jays and Best are both great. My favorite thing about Best is that it lets you order with an old fashioned paper order form that you mail to him (and you can pick items with the little cataloge pages he sends you). Not cutting edge, but probably the safest method of long distance payment imaginable. It was great back when I was without internet for awhile and didn't want to go ordering online at the Library. Now I just write him and ask him to send a Google checkout request. The site is pretty ugly, but I found everything I ever looked for.

4Jays is nearly perfect. Great site, great selection, quick international shipping, and good reply time to emails. It'd be completely perfect if they had the same, simple international ordering that Atari2600.com has (i.e. nothing special about making an international order at all), or if they had a 1-800 number for taking international orders. As it is I have to email for estimates as an international customer and then pay via the telephone (long distance) if I want to use a credit card. How is it that some websites have that, and others have it calculate shipping automatically no problem at all?

I've bought and traded with 4Jays and never had a problem. I prefered to order from them before the new website, because you could call them on the phone. But I've ordered through email and everything went just fine. I even traded some Game Cube items for 7800 items and O2 items.

One place you can still call on the phone to order is Video 61. And he (Lance at Video 61) carries 7800 controllers. I've ordered joysticks and joypads from him, and all went very well there too.
