MN12BIRD #1 Posted March 9, 2009 Hey guys I made this cool discovery today. The S-Video/Mono AV cable from a C64 works on a Sega Genesis! The model 1 (larger) Genesis uses an 8-pin DIN just like the C64 but what are the chances that out of the 8-pins in there the 2 we need (composite video and mono audio) just so happen to be in the right spot? Well they are! Sort of, don't match the colors. My C64 has a yellow, red and white jack (yellow and red being S-Video split) and out of these the yellow = mono audio and the white = composite video. So its backwards on the TV but it works great! I still think this is amazing. The Genesis uses 5 of the 8 pins. 3 for R, G, B, 1 for Composite and 1 for Mono audio (the original Model 1 Genesis doesn't output stereo audio out the back, only out the Headphone jack or SegaCD expansion port) but they fact the 2 of the 8 pins are where we need them is lucky! So there you go, many of us have a C64 and many of us have a good old classic Model 1 Genesis and perhaps like me you had AV cables for it all along and never knew it! nathanallan #2 Posted March 9, 2009 Yep, it works pretty good, and handy to have it all wrapped up in one cable.
