frenchman #1 Posted March 11, 2009 Is it Space Shuttle? It uses the whole console, and really takes a lot of thinking, are there any more complicated VCS games? Or which is the most complicated?
Rom Hunter #2 Posted March 11, 2009 (edited) To solve: http://www.atarimania.com/detail_soft.php?...ERSION_ID=14072 And ofcourse: http://www.atarimania.com/detail_soft.php?...VERSION_ID=7440 Edited March 11, 2009 by Rom Hunter
IHATETHEBEARS #3 Posted March 11, 2009 Seemingly not overly complicated, but try to get past just one board on Springer.
Bountybob #4 Posted March 11, 2009 Is it Space Shuttle? It uses the whole console, and really takes a lot of thinking, are there any more complicated VCS games?Or which is the most complicated? In terms of the best possible use of the Atari 2600's system resources (without the supercharger) how about Defender 2 ? Truely an incredible achievement to get such an accurate port of the awesome Defender Stargate working on the humble VCS. Berzerk Voice Enhanced deserves a mention here also, Outstanding Job Mike . Indeed, I think Stargate is easily one of the most technologically advanced titles for the VCS. I was very much stunned by the level of detail and the amazing sound effects that were used on this cart. Anyone know off hand how much memory was used on this one? Impaler_26 #6 Posted March 11, 2009 IMO Space Shuttle is the most complicated 2600 game.
Wickeycolumbus #7 Posted March 11, 2009 Another complicated title is Good Luck, Charlie Brown. From watching the video of it on youtube, the manipulation of the kite string is just amazingly complicated in terms of 2600 programming.
Kripto #8 Posted March 11, 2009 While I hate them, the SwordQuest series of games are horribly complicated and seemingly non-sensical to the point of possibly triggering a nervous breakdown. Space Shuttle wins IMO in terms of deserved complexity.
supercat #9 Posted March 11, 2009 Indeed, I think Stargate is easily one of the most technologically advanced titles for the VCS. I was very much stunned by the level of detail and the amazing sound effects that were used on this cart. Anyone know off hand how much memory was used on this one? Impressive indeed, especially given that it's only 7.5K+128B.
Godzilla #10 Posted March 12, 2009 I think fathom, riddle of the sphinx and solaris are pretty complicated. So are wing war, private eye, ghost busters and london blitz among others. I do think Space Shuttle wins, hands down. I remembering reading in detail in EG how it contained everything from a huge manual on the shuttle in the game (and accurate constellations,) to such a degree of accuracy that nasa used it as part of their training. The computer versions were identical and certainly didn't feel out of place on a top of the line computer of the day in terms of complexity.

atari_envy #13 Posted March 12, 2009 Ghost Manor. Lots of stuff going on, screens and options. I had to get a manual to figure out what to do (unusual for a 2600 game).
bcprs1 #14 Posted March 12, 2009 Riddle of the sphinx is impossible without the manual. I had this game as a kid and lost the manual. Goodluck trying to figure out what to do without it. I finally picked up the manual at a flea market and was excited that I could finally finish the game. Pretty disappointing that there was no ending though. Would have been cool if the temple flashed or something to acknowledge that you won.
Mister VCS #15 Posted March 12, 2009 No vote for Tomcat - The F-14 Fighter Simulator ? Ghostbusters II and Super Football (for the europeans) are very complicated. And Starmaster comes to mind.

Yep, i have Super Football and it really is unplayable for me! But who cares about weird sports anyway...
ZylonBane #17 Posted March 12, 2009 Indeed, I think Stargate is easily one of the most technologically advanced titles for the VCS. It isn't. Stargate just has a decent sprite multiplexer and enemy AI that tries to avoid overloading it. Also well-drawn sprites. Technologically, Solaris blows the doors off Stargate. Red 5 #18 Posted March 12, 2009 Not that I have it, but isn't 'Video Life' supposed to be incredibly complicated?

There is no denying It's easily one of the most accurate and sophisticated games (in terms of best use of available resources) ever created for the system. Rik #23 Posted March 12, 2009 From all the games"I"have,I'd say Space Shuttle is the most complicated game. Its an amazing achievement as well for the 2600,very well designed IMO.
