I Got My Gamesharks Working

Recommended Posts

I cleaned it, and tried out inserting and booting my games one by one, after trying it with Cruisin' World. In the end I tried Cruisin' World again, and it booted the gameshark, after I cleaned the gameshark with my legitimate N64 cleaning solution. You can bet I will be hacking Goldeneye and Mario 64 to the tee now, baby! Also, I have another gameshark, but it's corrupted. I scroll down in the cheat menu and when I get to Mario 64 the Gameshark freezes. Now I can't even get it to the cheat menu at all. But it runs to the main menu, which means that I can reinstall the gameshark firmware or fix it with the PC right? I got my gamesharks to be detected by the PC, but I still can't read anything off of them with the Gameshark utilities on Goldeneye Forever.

I'd just try to reinstall, just like you said. And clen everything over and over again.

The solution you used from Nintendo probably is good, but what I use is the TV tuner cleaner on the contacts, but you have to be careful the stuff doesn't drip down into the cart, cause it's corrosive to plastics (after a while). So I use a q-tip and don't spray it directly on the cart (but on the q-tip).

Is there a way to flash the shark, or is that what reinstall the firmware means?

I picked up a shark for the original Playstation, the kind that plugs into the rear port. I have yet to test it but it's here, and makes the second one that I have that I haven't messed with yet. The seal's been broken on it, but I doubt that anything has been touched inside. Probably just curious owners.

LOL that thing is the main culprit of lost I/O port covers.....followed close second by curious 5 year olds.

Isn't it just a standard parallel cable on the N64 shark? To reflash 'em you gotta stack 'em in the system, but I forget exactly how it's done.

LOL.

"Bowser, this one's for YOU."

Thanks man.

I loved the video. It was very thoughtful of you to make it and dedicate it to me. Your Gameshark seems to be very different than mine. It seems from what I have heard and seen that only Gameshark Pro 3.0 and above have the parallel port on the back. I took apart my sharks before to clean them and yours is much different inside. The line about the cat was funny, and I did not mind the driveway and noises. It was a very entertaining video. Nice job. Hope we can PM each other and stay in touch? It's nice to meet someone interested in hacking N64 like me. See, I seem to bore my friends telling them of my codes, even this one:

Mario 64 - Mario's Breathing Left Hand.wmv

That code, is HILARIOUS. I actually just typed it in, I wish I made it though.

Sure, you can PM me anytime or just post here, it's all good :) I love messing with hardware and making things do what they're

. The N64 is a back-burner project, it takes a lot of research and precise soldering, so I tend to concentrate on Atari and Sega projects. But the N64 is definitely on my to-do list.

I can't find any information on how to make this thing talk to a computer anywhere. Everybody wants me to buy their roms and pay to register-- all I want is the manual! Looked on ebay and all of them are either untested, incomplete and none are v2.0. This is pretty frustrating.

I don't even have a decent interface to work with, you had a parallel port, though. I need to figure this thing out before I smash it :x

not yet, I need to see what's going on with it. I'll hook it all up tonight, at work now. Will report back with results. This is the testing I like to do :)

The Saturn (and I believe the PS) GSs needed the special comms card. Somebody has made a modern USB interface for the Saturn one.
