+Omegamatrix #2 Posted March 15, 2009 You should ask AX how much he likes Atari red labels, and even more so CIB! Some of the red labels are more of a brownish color though.

+atari2600land #4 Posted March 15, 2009 I like the red labels, because I like mainly post-crash 2600 things and love that Atari brought back the system we all love in the mid-to-late-'80s (although I just started collecting 4 years ago. I was playing my Commodore 64 at the time.)
Gregory DG #5 Posted March 15, 2009 The red labels are my favorite. They look very classy. Kinda like the difference between the multicolored uniforms on the original Star Trek show vs. the maroon colored uniforms on the movies 2-6.

I think the original Boxes look the best I'm not a fan of the Silver or Red Labels either.
VectorGamer #8 Posted March 16, 2009 I like the first picture labels that came out - Asteroids being my favorite. They are more nostalgic to me. I like the silver labels - someone at Atari got this right. To me it means that the games were "new and improved" and if you look at the quality of carts like Galaxian, Phoenix and Joust it was very true. I'm neutral on the red labels. As far as the boxes that the 2600 carts came in - they were the best of any vendor out there. There is something awesome about the Space Invaders box - the saucers look omnipotent and the color of the box is perfect. The artwork is fantastic and it is my favorite packaging due partly because it was the game I wanted the most when I first got my Atari.
jboypacman #9 Posted March 16, 2009 Nothing wrong with the "reds" and i agree they look nice stacked up with each other.
EricDeLee #10 Posted March 17, 2009 I like the reds as well. I am not a huge fan of the text games. I collect them, but I don't like them all that well.
phuzzed #11 Posted March 17, 2009 I like the red labels as well. i like the Text only labels because they seem to age very well. They don't really fade over time, which means they are easy to care for
BSA Starfire #12 Posted March 17, 2009 don't mind the labels but i hate the cheap ass carts they are on, the labels sink into the holes and the locating pins always seem to be broken on at least one side so i have to piss about to get the cart to fit... atari_envy #13 Posted March 17, 2009 Not a fan of the red labels and boxes. Kinda cheap looking imho, especially inside with the brown cardboard showing, the non-color manuals, and lack of inserts/catalogs. The shrinking shrinkwrap that warps the boxes is also an annoyance. However, I am a big fan of almost all of the games that are red. Some of the 2600's best (or at least technically most impressive) games are red boxes. To each their own. My favorite is the 82-83 silvers. Love the boxes with the Atari hologram, color manuals, carts with pictures with retracting spring flap, and lots of color inserts/catalogs. The shrinkwrap is also nice and sturdy and not prone to shrinkage. Kudos also to the Atari colored boxes artwork. Classic.
Mirage #14 Posted March 17, 2009 Nothing beats the artwork on the Atari color boxes. The silvers are pretty nice too, in some cases. Atari got really cheap in the red-label era. I only intentionally get the unique red-label titles, not the reissues. The red label thing just doesn't do it for me, aesthetically. And as atari_envy said, the duotone and B&W manuals are really cheap.
pinball22 #15 Posted March 19, 2009 I really like the style of the red labels... something very nice and clean about them.

I agree that Atari went cheap with the red boxes. They crush easily and the shrinkwrap warps and sticks to the box.
